The Cheese Stands Alone

Tu 8/30/22 720am (B). 915am (2- B). 12pm (B). 405pm (2- B).450pm (2- gr/wh). 745pm (B). Up 6am: Bright and sunny with temps to just over 80. Yesterday evening's storms looked like it could really get bad, but the worst of it missed us. I did find a pretty big branch under the tree in the front yard but the rain gauge only showed a quarter of an inch.   I dropped Buddy off at Brewer right at 730am. It might take until late this afternoon...or not. I guess it depends on what they find. He seemed very upbeat and chipper this morning and I hope he's in the pink.  I drove over to County Market/ Fairhills and they were resurfacing the parking lot. It's really going to be a mess when people start coming in to shop.  I was home and the groceries were put away by 815am; $77 (didn't buy beer).  Watched 'OFF AND RUNNING' (Amazon Prime- leaves 9/1). Shoestring production, yet very compelling. A profile of a Avery, young black girl who was adopted by a white/Jewish les...

Mo 8/29/22 HIGH SUPPLY: (Sativa) Shortbread Popcorn 755am (B). 1030am (1- gr/wh). 1205pm (B). 430pm (2- gr/wh) Last of the Indica. 645pm (B).  Up 545am: Humid and partly sunny with rain and thunderstorms beginning late this afternoon with temps to upper 80's.  ***I walked to Walgreens to mail back the disc; 720am-740am. When I opened the box for more weed I thought that the weed I bought a couple of weeks ago was gone. One of the 1/8ths was in a jar and one was in a tinfoil package and this accounted for the confusion. And then, when I opened the plastic jar of Shortbread Popcorn I had to use a hammer to shatter the top. Why do they have to make the cannabis containers more sinister than 'child-proof'.  Watched 'WASHINGTON SQUARE' (Hoopla- borrowed Saturday). Set in upper class NYC during the late 19th century a young woman falls for a young man who might only care about her fortune, but her father nixes any chance of marriage. Heartbreak and trauma follow. An exce...

Su 8/28/22- Buddy Sick! 8am (B). 1015am (2- gr/wh). 4pm (2- B). 730pm (2- B).  Up 645am: Partly sunny with a chance of rain early this afternoon and temps to upper 80's. A heavy downpour around 4pm added about two inches to the rain gauge. ***Buddy got sick about 830am and then again about 1010 am. I guess I fed him too soon after the first incident.  I fed him a small amount before the first walk on the treadmill and when I came upstairs I noticed that he had thrown it up again.  Between 3pm-4pm Buddy kept down a couple of small servings. When I got on the treadmill for the second time he sprawled on the downstairs runner for the entire session and he seemed very lethargic- so unlike Buddy. When I lifted Buddy on to the counter to put the medicine in his ear for the second dose of the day, he threw up clear liquid. We're downstairs and he's resting behind the TV.  Watched 'INTO THE BLUE' (Amazon Prime). A young couple in love own an old boat and with the help of a ...

Sa 8/27/22 725am (B). 1005am (1- gr/wh). 345pm (2- B). 440pm (2- gr/wh). 645pm (B).  Up 530am: Partly cloudy with temps to mid 80's. Wrote up 'UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN' and 'NIGHTMARE ALLEY' for the blog and then borrowed two titles from Hoopla- 'WASHINGTON SQUARE' and 'THE WIPERS TIMES'. This is part of the August 'Bonus Borrow' and these titles do not deplete your credits. Watched 'THE WIPERS TIMES' (Hoopla). The film is about a satirical newsletter published by a company of soldiers fighting on the frontlines during WWI near the city of Ypres, Belgium. The name of the town is pronounced 'Eee-prah' and the English nickname was 'Wipers'.  The film is shot on a shoestring yet witty and very clever and based on real events. Filmed in Northern Ireland.  Watched 'HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MIND- MDMA' (50") (Netflix). MDMA was invented in 1912 by Merck as an anticoagulant but it wasn't successful and sat on a ...

Fr 8/26/22- Bella Milano: 6pm 705am (B).  1010am (1- B). 850pm (B).  Up 530am: Partly cloudy with temps to low 80's. Watched Netflix disc 'WORDS ON BATHROOM WALLS'. A high school student learns that he is schizophrenic and battles it with 'Love' & 'Will Power'. I didn't buy the premise for a minute, but it was kind of a compelling story; with Charlie Plummer, Andy Garcia, Taylor Russell, Beth Grant, Molly Parker, and Walton Goggins. Filmed in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The plan is to do 5 miles on the treadmill and then do the lawn. At 930am still too wet to mow so I'll get the walk in first.  950am: PC is 'Off' and preparing for the treadmill. 1015am: FIVE MILES AT 4.0 PACE AND ZERO SLANT, finished LOUIS C.K & JOE LIST on J.R.E and began MARK ZUCKERBERG on J.R.E. Finished 'NIGHTMARE ALLEY' by William Lindsay Gresham and began 'A Short Dance In The Sun' by George Benet. 4pm-445pm: Mowed the lawn...

Th 8/25/22 745am (B). 1030am (1- B). 1135pm (B). 440pm (1- gr/wh). 745pm (B).  Up 545am: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain late this afternoon and temps to mid 80's. I noticed that light rain was falling when I came upstairs about 830pm Thursday night. Janny sent an email last night that Joe has a cold and I suggested that they put off the 'gift giving' till next week. I would have liked to tell her that I'd be seeing them Friday evening at the restaurant, but I didn't want to negate the 'secret' (if it is a secret?).  Watched 'THE NICE GUYS' (Netflix). A reviewer called the film 'Candy Noir' and that about sums it up. The outrageous premise is that in 1977 a porno film was released to demonstrate collusion between Detroit automakers and the US government to slow down the introduction of catalytic converters. And the film is just a wacky search through the underbelly of Los Angeles to locate the young actress who was featured in th...

We 8/24/22 710am (B). 945am (2- B). 1145am (B). 4pm (2- B). 450pm (1- gr/wh). Up 645am: Poison ivy on my knees (?!?) kept me up. One more beautiful summer day with temps just over 80.  Watched 'YOUTH IN REVOLT' (Plex).  A sixteen year old suburban kid doesn't want to die a virgin and attracts the girl of his dreams despite his kooky family situation. A very witty dash of Dada/Surrealism: A 60's muscle car is disassembled in the driveway and then reassembled (to everyone's astonishment) in the living room/ dining area of a suburban home; with Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard, Ray Liotta, Ari Graynor, Rooney Mara, M. Emmet Walsh, and Mary Kay Place. Filmed in Frankfort, Ann Arbor, and Ferndale, Michigan- and some in Louisiana (reshoots). Watched more of 'THE DEFEATED' (Netflix).  1150am: To Monroe PO- Out Edwards, back Governor...LESLIE WEST;  J. GEILS BAND...ONE HOUR & 50 MINS.  Reading 'NIGHTMARE ALLEY...
