We 1/31/18

We 1/31/18 Up 7am; Mostly cloudy 'n breezy; temps in mid 30's to high 40's, but the wind made it feel chilly. Wrote up THE QUIET GAME and ordered another novel (TURNING ANGEL) by this author, then watched a Paul Schrader film with Willem Dafoe and Susan Sarandan called, THE LIGHT SLEEPER. Dafoe as an elite drug dealer in early 1990's on the mean streets of NYC. During a garbage strike on labor day weekend an old girlfriend resurfaces. He hasn't seen this 'love of his life' in over ten years, she jumps or is pushed out the window of one of his client's high rise apartments, and he murders who he thinks is responsible. Five to ten in the pen, and his boss Sarandan waits for him. TAXI DRIVER is a better film, but they share the same dour and depressive tone and feel. Trouble with Security Essentials. It just won't update, so I installed Avast. Don't like it- they really give the hard-sell to buy, and the system seems to lag.  Anothe...

Tu 1/30/18

Tu 1/30/18 Write up THE QUIET GAME- Copy Cheese Stands Alone- (Didn't do either of these very important things) Up 715am; Fourteen degrees, sunny; temps to upper 30's later. Netflix disc, MARSHLAND. Won over forty film awards and nominated for over forty more. Fantastic film set in the south of Spain near the marshlands adjacent to Seville.  Netflix-'DIRTY MONEY'- Valeant Drug Company 1pm- Beginning THE FOUR FINGERS OF DEATH, Rick Mooney. 220pm on the machines at Planet Fitness after dropping the disc at the Wabash PO. 45" Walk. 3.8/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (4 FINGERS OF DEATH). 45" Cross. 28" Bike (very crowded, so I got off to snag a Cross). 32" Cross.  To the Fairhills County Market for the weekly shopping. $56.00. Home to soak and read more of Rick Mooney/ a compilation of House Music.  The last episode of season #1, DEADWOOD. I was surprised that it didn't have more punch, I'll watch more, but it went...

Mo 1/29/18

Mo 1/29/18 Up 640am; Cold and gray with flurries. Not expected to get above freezing all day. KRISHA (Amazon Prime). Another truly amazing film that turns 'the addiction genre' on its' head- feels more like horror. The director did the film THEY COME AT NIGHT; this was his second film and it concerned a family's dilemma after a post-apocalyptic plague.  Then I'm watching the last two episodes of GOLIATH. This is the real Golden Age of Television!  1050am- crafting the email to The Brandenburgs. Why the news blackout about the trip to Phoenix?? Finished GOLIATH 1230pm; totally blown away! To the 'Y' and on the machines by 230pm. 45" Walk. 3.8/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (THE QUIET GAME). 45" Cross. 42" Bike. 37" Cross. A little extra... Didn't want to fight the nuts about the 'cool steam', so I went home and did an hour plus soak/ first Byrds album- finished THE QUIET GAME. I require many more by Greg Iles...

Su 1/28/18

Su 1/28/18 Up 715am; Wild and crazy dream about 'the crane trailer'...no new ground broken. 30 now, to high 40's; sunny and calm. ROAD TO THE WELL (Amazon Prime). Another noirish Lo-Fi film that's probably a fave on the Independent film festival circuit. Friends become killers, and then kill again in lovely, scenic California.  Watched a YouTube interview with the director and some of the cast. 1040am- The weekly cleaning Watching the next episode of GOLIATH- 1145am. 1pm- out to do a little raking on the front lawn. Got a full barrel and one bag of sour-gum balls, and at FitClub and on the machines by 230pm. 45" Octane (Led Zeppelin Centennial). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross (The Jack Asshole is certainly a problem, and much worse during the Trump Era). 45" Recumbent Bike. 20" Old Style Cross. No shower or whirlpool; home to soak for 45" and listen to the end of the Live Elvis and Attractions and then "The Up Escalator" ...

Sa 1/27/18

Sa 1/27/18 Up 640am. Fifty already and this is about as warm as it gets; mostly sunny and very breezy. 'LIVE A LITTLE' (Amazon Prime). This is a black/ who-dunit/ film noir set in Washington DC. After a drunken bar fight a man feels that he might have committed a murder. I guess it's true to the 'best of noir' because nothing is entirely resolved at the end, yet the plot is very suspenseful and the characters are well developed.  Two episodes of GOLIATH- My new fave series! Cannot access Amazon Prime on Explorer! I ran the Malwarebytes program and then downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer (11). Watched another episode of DEADWOOD with no problems. The High Definition is crystal clear.  I was going to run outside....but...2pm left for Planet Fitness, forgot THE QUIET GAME, remembered at Cherry and turned around. 50" Walk. 3.8/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (THE QUIET GAME). 45" Cross. 30" Bike (read). 40" Cross. 3 1/...

Fr 1/26/18

Fr 1/26/18 Up 640am; Sunny and high 30's. To high 50's with more clouds and high winds from the south later. Wrote up Kim Gordon's memoir, GIRL IN THE BAND, and listened to GIANT SAND. 8am; Netflix disc, LOVELACE. A well-done film and it's evident that the directors are documentarians. And, Lovelace was a much more complicated figure than portrayed in the film. A highly sympathetic rendering strictly from her point of view- it's a good thing in that it made her more appealing, however, it's slightly misleading. Made a dental appointment for Buddy on Wed.Feb. 21st; All Day- $225. 2 episodes of GOLIATH; this is now my fave TV series. The 'Chez Jay' is the best law office of all time! Left the house at 130pm and drove over to the car wash behind the McD's on Monroe. Eight bucks and it looks good. On the machines at FitClub South by 2pm. 45" Best Cross (Tummler- 'Early Man'). 45" Recumbent Bike (THE QUIET GAME). 45" Cr...

Th 1/25/18

Th 1/25/18 Up 715am; Bright and sunny. 30's now, and to hit the mid fifties later. Ate too much and stayed up too late reading the Mia Farrow memoir about her life with Woody. He seems like a real piece of work. Watching the Netflix disc, YOU'RE NEXT. Adam Wingard, same director as THE GUEST. An intelligent Slasher Flick with an effective and offbeat sense of humour. Features 'Looking For The Magic' (1977) by Dwight Twilley Band. Changed Heartland Pass;  Can't be longer than ten digits, so I shortened it. 1130am reading THE QUIET GAME. On the machines at Planet Fitness by 155pm. 45" Walk. 3.8/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (THE QUIET GAME). 45" Cross. 30" Bike (Judge Judy/ read). 30" Cross. Up the hill to the Dollar Store for a $2.50 tube of sensitive toothpaste, then over to 'Hop & Skip' (Shop n Save) for $48.00 worth of groceries. Got some deals! Home to soak for 45" and more reading.  First episode of GOLIATH...

We 1/24/18

We 1/24/18 Up 715am; partly sunny and in the thirties most of the day. Low 50's the next couple of days. Watched an episode of MAD DOGS (Amazon Prime). 10am- re-reading notes for tonight's book club meeting.  1110am- CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM. Larry makes a NYC movie with Martin Scorsese, and uses the fact that, "my mother just died"- and he didn't make the funeral because she didn't want to 'bother' him.  Noon- to FitClub West even though the 'hot' hot-tub is still down. 45" Octane (Captain Beefheart/ James Brown/ Miles). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 30" Old Style Cross. Legs/ Chest/ Bicep. Home to re-read THE FORGETTING TIME and listened to tape of 'Rank & File'. To library 540am. New member, and all the old members were there. Everyone liked the book. Another TRANSPARENT. Then the first episode of BORED TO DEATH, another CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM... Bra sniffing dog.

Tu 1/23/18

Tu 1/23/18 Up 715am; Cold and gray; it will stay in the mid 30's all day, and only to get a couple of degrees warmer tomorrow. I got a prompt to download a new edition of Adobe and I did. I didn't get the anti-virus package that was linked with it. Maybe this was the reason for yesterday's problems on Prime? 810am- MISS SLOANE- Amazon Prime. Thinking six moves ahead and four levels up. The film deals with the subject of gun legislation, but it's really about the short-comings of our government to react to the obvious needs of the people. Money DOES make right- unfortunately. 11am- DEADWOOD. At noon reading THE QUIET GAME, and left for FitClub South about 115pm. Stopped for gas at the Casey's- Wabash overpass. On the machines 2pm. 45" My Fave Cross (DON CABALLERO). 45" Recumbent Bike (THE QUIET GAME). 45" Cross. 45" Recumbent (read). 30" Cross TV Area. Steam Room/ Whirlpool. Home to watch two episodes of,  TRANSPARENT, then I tried...

Mo 1/22/18

Mo 1/22/18 Up 720am; Hard rain about 3am. Fifties early, to 60 later, clouds/ sun/ rain/ drizzle- at least it's warm. Sent the Chat Wrap to Phoenix or The North-End. Then watched DALLAS BUYERS CLUB on Netflix. I had forgotten what a powerful piece of acting this film was- Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner were all superb. Watched the last half hour of the Youtube conversation between Kim Gordon and Carrie Brownstein.  1215pm- Two episodes of TRANSPARENT on Amazon Prime. Some problems with running High Definition. I watched the first episode in 'Non- HD', and it worked OK. The picture quality seemed just as good, then the second episode worked in 'HD'. I wonder if the new DVD player will be affected. Speed Test shows 13/ 1.2- about normal.  150pm to Planet Fitness. 45" Walk. 3.8/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (GIRL IN A BAND). 45" Cross. 30" Bike (Judge Judy/ read). 30" Cross. Legs/ Chest/ Back Machine- will use t...

Su 1/21/18

Su 1/21/18 Up 630am; Warm (Clammy) and gray. Rain and mist in the forecast for a day and a half; to a moist 60. An email in the 'junk folder' this morning. Still worth it- "The price of the monthly Prime membership increased from $10.99 to $12.99 on January 19, 2018." Watching Netflix disc, THE GUEST; 745am; Like 'Captain America' without a moral compass and a yen for the murderous. Surprisingly good! 1030am- THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL (Amazon Prime) 1245pm- The Weekly Cleaning. I finished the cleaning, ironed three shirts, and made the call to Elsie's by 215pm. I didn't talk with Lannie for very long, but it seemed like the Brandenburgs were expected any minute. He was in the bathroom, and actually was taken two times in the ten minutes that I waited to call back.  On the machines at FitClub, 230pm. 45" Octane (Blues Mix). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 30" Bike. 30" Old Style Cross. Both whirlpools w...

Sa 1/20/18

Sa 1/20/18 Up 630am; Already above freezing and temps might get to near 50 later, but a severe lack of sun. Wrote up THE FORGETTING TIME for the blog, and listening to a podcast between Aimee Mann and Kim Gordon. I almost ordered Gordon's book from Amazon, but then downloaded it from the library. Now it's on my phone! 8am; Watching Netflix disc, MAUDIE (Sally Hawkins/ Ethan Hawke). A truly inspiring love story between two of the most unlikely of people. Maud Lewis's art is similar to that of Grandma Moses. The house that Maud and Everett lived in on the island of Nova Scotia was only 12 X 14 with no electricity, running water, or insulation. What did they do with her money? Watched the rest of the 'Kim Gordon in conversation with Aimee Mann' on Youtube. Then the episode of MAD DOGS that I watched last night. 1230pm- reading GIRL IN A BAND; A MEMOIR; KIM GORDON on the smart phone. I almost hit the button to buy the book on Amazon for eight bucks, but so gla...

Fr 1/19/18

Fr 1/19/18 Reading THE FORGETTING TIME, 430am-530am. Up 730am. Sunny and 30; temps to hit the mid to upper 40's later. Listening to Till Tuesday (Aimee Mann) and writing up GLITZ. Watching an Irish film on Netflix called 'BAD DAY FOR THE CUT' that's a very entertaining 'revenge thriller' with an portly, middle-aged Irish farmer in the Charles Bronson role.  11am; watching 'MAD DOGS' (Amazon Prime- pilot). Four friends from college reunite in Belize with a rich buddy. He's brutally murdered and they are caught up in a lethal web. Then, an EASTBOUND & DOWN. Don Johnson as 'Kenny Powers's' dad. Unbelievable. 130pm to FitClub. Da Day Gotta Way... 45" Octane (27 Early Beatles Singles; loaded on to Google Play this morning....Why was I waiting?). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 45" Recumbent Bike. 30" Old Style Cross. Legs/ Chest/ Biceps. Home to soak in the tub....45" ('2 Culture...

Th 1/18/18

Th 1/18/18 Up 550am; Mid teens and to mid 30's later with plenty of sun. The warming trend seems to have arrived. Computer seems to be slow like something is running in the background, but OK now... I strongly suspect that fuckery is afoot.  Watching Netflix, THE DEVIL'S KNOT-  based on The Memphis Three/  'Satanic Panic' case . Really well-done, but the aftermath of this gross miscarriage of justice would make an even more interesting film documentary. 920am- downloading Google Chrome to take care of the performance issues. In just a few minutes everything seems hunky-dory. Will I have to do this every month or so? The tip-off seems to be when there is an issue with Google Maps- that happened this morning.   THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL (pilot) Amazon Prime. Wow! What a great series and worth all the hype and awards. 11am reading THE FORGETTING TIME. 115pm to the 'Y'. 45" Walk. 3.8/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (THE FORGETTING TIME). 45...

We 1/17/18- New DVD Downstairs

We 1/17/18 Up 615am; Clear, bright, and temperature two degrees below zero, but a warming trend is here. To above freezing by late afternoon (didn't make it!), and 40's and 50's for the weekend- but rain in the forecast. Watching Netflix disc, THE GREAT WALL (Matt Damon/ Willem Dafoe). A near perfect synthesis of 'Blockbuster' and 'Lackluster'. Ideal for pre-adolescent boys, but a massive dose of  drugs and/ or  liquor necessary for all others. At best, "a beautiful waste of time"....."sizzle minus the steak".... 10am; setup of new DVD player. Hopefully, this will be 'lackluster'. Went surprisingly easy, and I was watching the next episode of DEADWOOD on Amazon Prime by 1030am. Quality great, but it will take some time to get used to the new channel changer. Read the January selection, THE FORGETTING TIME, on the couch, and left for Planet Fitness and Wabash PO, 215pm. Stopped at Todd and Julie's house to drop off thei...

Tu 1/16/18

Tu 1/16/18 Up 6am; the temperature is two below zero and it's only to get into the mid teens all day; schools are closed/ death and destruction. Watching THE BIG SICK. This is a film made by Amazon and winner of several awards (7am). Another excellent romantic comedy; tremendous cast. Another DEADWOOD.  11am reading GLITZ; last day on this book, then it's on to the book club selection for Janurary. 1245pm to FitClub. 45" Octane (WORKBOOK- Bob Mould). 45" Bike. 45" Walk. 3.7/0. 45" Cross. Legs/ Chest/ Biceps. 30" Old Style Cross. Whirlpool. Drove to Best Buy and bought a new DVD Player. This one should be able to play Netflix as well as Amazon Prime. Can't wait, but can't stand the hassle of doing it tonight. Tomorrow.... Tonight will begin with THE FREE SPEECH APOCALYPSE (Amazon Prime). I'll start with this, but the premise looks dicey. So awful that I wrote a review to IMDB- "Two and Two is Five; Fair and Bal...

Mo 1/15/18

Mo 1/15/18 Up 715am. About an inch of snow and it's 25 degrees and the temps are to fall all day. Single digits and below zero wind chills tomorrow.  815am- STONE (Netflix); Edward Norton/ Robert DeNiro/ Milla Jovovich.  Prisoner tries to con his psychologist to gain release from prison by employing the sexual charms of his wife; profound existential crisis and sexual obsession. Powerful film, and I'm surprised that I've never seen or heard of it. 1115am- out to shovel the walk/ drive. Another DEADWOOD, and a CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM. 130pm; to foot doctor on Isles. Easy to find and I had to fill out paperwork, and then I waited in an examination room until 220pm. They were surprisingly busy. Maybe MLK Birthday Holiday? He made an impression, and I learned that the order was really for both feet, but would probably work just as well with one. Dr. Stephens $150 was a quote for one foot (Your car will cost $15,000, of course, the wheels, including the st...

Su 1/14/18

Su 1/14/18 Up 650am and feel great, regardless of last night's beery devastation. Gray and twelve degrees. To mid twenties and an inch of snow is expected for late tonight. Watching THE WAY OF THE GUN (Netflix). Blood and guns with a great script. Then, half of a Prime documentary called, THE BRAINWASHING OF MY DAD.  1230PM- Weekly Cleaning, then the call to Elsie's. Short and sweet, and no bathroom issues. In'n'Out...At FitClub 145pm. 45" Octane (Whiskeytown). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 45" Bike. 30" Old Style Cross. Whirlpool. Home to finish 'Brainwashing' (Prime), and who knows what else. THE BRAINWASHING OF MY DAD was a well-done expose about the sociopolitical ravishes done by Fox News to whole concept of 'Truth In News'. Clinton's administration signed the bill that opened the airwaves to 'Fake News/ Fair and Balanced/ Total Bullshit'- I wonder what he was hoping to get for that concession, or w...

Sa 1/13/18- ' Stache Is Gone'!

Sa 1/13/18 Awake at 430am and read GLITZ till 510am. More bitterly cold weather, single digits, wind chills, yet sunny. Watching Netflix disc, GOING IN STYLE (Michael Caine/ Alan Arkin/ Morgan Freeman). Three seniors lose their pensions so they rob a bank. A tad above ho-hum. Watched the last episode of Prime's, PHILIP K DICK'S ELECTRIC DREAMS (Kill The Others); Vera Farigna as 'the politician'. Two tads above ho-hum. 930am- reading GLITZ on the couch. 1145am left to mail the disc and hit Planet Fitness. 45" Walk. 3.7/0. 45" Recumbent Bike (GLITZ). 45" Cross. 45" Bike (GLITZ/ Hawaii Hi Alert- Nuclear Threat/ Mistake...what-the-fuck!). 30" Cross. Drove to County Market to re-up the pills for the tendonitis. $15, and I bought a big can of FOUR LOKO FRUIT PUNCH; 12%. Sipped on the couch while reviewing, PARIS TROUT and, THE FOUR FINGERS OF DEATH, 2 hardbacks that arrived in the mail....In the hot-tub with 2 more Ice's.. reading GLIT...

Fr 1/12/18

Fr 1/12/18 Up 445am; Fourteen degrees with 20 mph winds; to mid twenties, partly sunny. I tried to download Updates for Microsoft Security Essentials and it's just hung-up- I'll have to find another anti-virus for the Windows 7 PC. I've got the same stuff on Windows 10 and that seems to work perfectly. Wrote up LILY LAKE for the blog. Then watched DeNiro in THE COMEDIAN. More problems with Microsoft Security.....815am. On and off until 10am. Uninstall/ Reinstall...then I noticed that I had some kind of a virus which I put in quarantine using Malewarebytes. When I tried to install another anti-virus program I was getting a prompt telling me that there was already a program on the computer that could essentially hijack the browser. Five 'things' and they are all in quarantine. I did an update/ reinstall of Microsoft Security Essentials and I don't have Defender but the rest is still working. I'm going to leave it the fuck alone! Another WIRE...

Th 1/11/18

Th 1/11/18 950am appointment with Dr. Stephens at 800 N. 1st; Springfield Clinic. Up 630am; (Had a cheese/ toast sandwich before bed- very late) It's now 57 degrees, but this is about the high for the day. Temps will begin dropping later this afternoon, and teens for early tomorrow. Sleet/ icy rain/ snow in the possible forecast. Winter will recommence tonight. Downloading THIN WILD MERCURY MUSIC after putting my ancient and battered copy on Google Play. Hope this works. I love these interpretations of The Classics! The rest of CONCUSSION- (730AM). Another look at a stultifying marriage; begins with PRETTY THINGS (Bowie), ends with SOME OF THEM ARE OLD (Eno) while the women are in a spin cycle class. 925am- To Clinic. Arrive ten minutes before the appointment and then I waited 25" to see him. The plan is to buy some inserts that are as good as the ones that he makes but 25% cheaper: $100 vs. $400. And, I'll do another round of the drugs to combat the s...

We 1/10/18

We 1/10/18 Up 550am; 41 degrees, gray and cloudy; the temps will break 50 later with strong south winds. A WOMAN IN DANGER (Amazon Prime) Marion Cotillard carried the whole thing in this French 'Made For TV' Mystery/ Thriller. She cheats on her husband, and this man is killed, but it's a different man than the one she had sex with. Police think she's the murderer, but it's her husband who set her up. Wonderfully shot in Nice, France. While trying to find details about the film on Amazon I accidentally ordered a digital copy of the film for $7.99. I couldn't find a way to cancel the order, and I finally did a,'help chat' and it looks like it will be cancelled in 3-5 business days. It went pretty well, but I still can't find out how to cancel a digital order on the website. Put more discs on Google Play, farted around, COMEDIANS IN CARS GETTING COFFEE (Jim Carrey) 1045am: Then a bunch more, Jimmy Fallon/ Steven Colbert/ Alec Baldwin. A...

Tu 1/9/18

Tu 1/9/18 Up 545am; Low 30's with some patches of fog. Cloudy all day, not much change in temps. Watched THE LATHE OF HEAVEN on Youtube. Better than I thought it would be and a very accurate presentation of the novel. Then another THE WIRE; Steve Earle at a 12-Step Meeting. Microsoft security essentials asked for an update and hung up for over and hour.  I spent over an hour (after waiting 45" for the update- to no avail) screwing around with it and was completely shocked and appalled. I run this program three or four times a week. Now, I'm not sure if it Updates before it runs. Maybe I just hadn't Updated in so long that it caused it to misperform. I uninstalled Essentials, and reinstalled. Shut it off and then restarted when I got back from the workout. By 530pm everything was back to Okey Dokey. 1215pm to Fairhills to fill the Accord and shop the Dollar Store. Got vitamins, a tube of Vaseline, more incense, and three pairs of reading glasses for...

Mo 1/8/18

Mo 1/8/18 Up 5am. The melting is working! It's only 730am and it looks like the driveway is mostly water- not ice. Temps in the mid 30's and cloudy. It's supposed to clear up and get to the upper 30's. I wrote up FROM THE TEETH OF ANGELS for the blog, and then finished HAPPY HUNTING. The film was much better than I expected if you view it as kind of a spoof on the genre. A desert town institutionalizes 'thinning the herd' and all the gruesome details are fully explored with a dollop of humor.  'TOO LATE' (John Hawkes) on Netflix (8am) I had seen this one before, but forgot how good it was. Five segments all shot with no cuts; dialog and story-line worthy of the finest film-noir. I'm surprised that this director is not more well known.   Near the end of the film, I shut it down, and wrote/ sent the Chat Wrap to Janny and by 1115am reading LILY DALE.  130pm on the machines at the 'Y'. 45" Walk. 3.7/0. 45" Recumbent Bi...

Su 1/7/18

Su 1/7/18 Up 515am; 20 degrees and warming all day; sleet and snow has been knocked back to 'just rain', but I might just stay inside all day. Westview on ice is not very nice. Listening to Todd Rundgren on WTF, 620am- Netflix disc, THE NEXT THREE DAYS. Sure the plot-line is hard to believe, but Donald Trump is president. That's much more hard to believe. 920am; Amazon Prime, SOUTH BUREAU HOMICIDE. A cut above the glut of 'reality police' shows.  11am- reading Carroll. Still no 'rain.sleet.snow'. I got so caught up in the book that I read till I finished. Another fine fable by Jonathan Carroll! 145pm on the machines at FitClub. Still no precipitation, but it rained sometime while I was working out. The parking lot was very slippery on the walk to the car, and the roads were OK, but going up the driveway was pretty iffy.  In for the night, and I'll wait till it gets significantly above 32 before I venture out tomorrow.  Called Elsie...

Sa 1/6/18

Sa 1/6/18 Up 515am and the temperature was eight below zero. Today's high is to hit the mid teens, and tomorrow the temps are to climb to around freezing, but sleet and snow are to begin in the afternoon and continue through the night. I might not leave the house, but by Monday it will be far above freezing and 40's for later in the week. Wrote up VIOLENT WARD for the blog and made a post at GoodReads.  Watching Netflix disc, NORMAN: THE MODERATE RISE AND TRAGIC FALL OF A NEW YORK FIXER (Richard Gere). Finished the film and bonus features at 10am. The film is a thoroughly enjoyable and engrossing character study of a rare and unique type of person. A 'fixer' is most often an individual who is in 'the game' to accomplish or gain something for himself, but Norman only wants to be part of something larger than himself- He wants to matter. I loved it! Then, another DEADWOOD. Will read for a while, then head to Planet Fitness.  Mailed the disc and wa...

Fr 1/5/18

Fr 1/5/18 Up 515am; Gray and frigid; 10 with below zero wind chills ....the usual. Watched the last hour of CANDY, and the bonus features. The ending is quite different from the book. I preferred the book's ending where Candy just slips out of Dan's life. He hears about her once or twice, and then nothing. Sometimes people are a dominating presence in our lives, and then in months or years, they are just gone. I kinda dug that. 915AM- I took down the Xmas decorations   Episode #2 of La Mante. 1030am- reading VIOLENT WARD and finished the novel. Maybe a bit too convoluted, but Len Deighton is a terrific writer and I want to get more of his stuff. This book seems to be a kind of departure since most of his work is within the spy genre.  1pm left for FitClub South and stopped at the Wabash PO to drop off the disc. 45" My Fave Cross (Soundtrack to The Sopranos). 45" Recumbent Bike (began FROM THE TEETH OF ANGELS- Jonathan Carroll). 45" Cross. 30...

Th 1/4/18

Th 1/4/18 WEIRD EVENT- I awoke at 6am feeling well rested and rarin' to go. I turned on the coffee machine, flipped on NPR, booted up the PC, and then realized that I had misread the clock- it was only 1am. One cup and re-collapse.  Up 530am; Below zero temperature and wind chills in the double digits. To low teens and mostly sunny. At 615am I got a call...."This is Windows...." I couldn't believe it! And, the thieves will probably get a lot of takers today because the big news is that there is a major security risk on almost all computers in use today- something about a breach in a chip? Watching THE LOVERS starring an unrecognizable Debra Winger. I remembered the voice, but it would not associate with the face until I checked Google Image- then it fell into place....Urban Cowboy/ Officer and a Gentleman. The film is the most unusual love story I've ever seen....A terrific film! 915am- reading VIOLENT WARD on the couch, and it's one below z...
