Th 10/31/19- First Snow Of The Season!

Th 10/31/19- First Snow Of The Season! Up 820am: About a half inch of wet snow fell last night and it continued through the morning, and we probably got a little over an inch total and nothing has melted by late afternoon. Not cold enough to stick on the streets- temps only to just above freezing and pretty windy. Watched 'THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY' (Amazon Prime) The award winning film based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith about the sociopathic killer-chameleon, Tom Ripley; with Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Philip Baker Hall... A classic, intricately plotted crime thriller! Watched a few minutes of a YouTube video about Morrissey, but I did add several albums to my Amazon Prime. Then, 'INSIDE MAN: MOST WANTED' (Netflix) An elaborate bank heist film in which the New York branch of the Federal Reserve is targeted. The stolen gold is melted down into fake brass rods, and the clean-up crew (actually the robbers...

We 10/30/19

We 10/30/19 Up 615am: Cold, rain and drizzle all day with temps only to 40. Watched, 'SKIN' (Amazon Prime) The film earnestly documents the life of a young man who was an ardent member of a white supremacist group who painfully grows to accept the evil of his ways. When he falls in love and marries a woman with three young girls, he finally is able cut ties with his old 'family'. His face is covered in racist tattoos and the movie is framed around the removal of this hateful art; with Jamie Bell, Danielle McDonald, and Vera Farmiga. Based on actual events, and a very powerful film. Then, ten minutes of '200th Episode/ COMEDY BANG BANG' (YouTube) with Scott Aukerman and Jason Mantzoukas. Not too funny, then a couple of songs about 'Truck Birthday' and 'Truck Skin Baby' that were funny. Then, 'THE ENGLISH TEACHER' (Amazon Prime) A repressed high school English teacher becomes obsessed with with a former student who has written a pla...

Tu 10/29/19

Tu 10/29/19 Up 8am: Cloudy with temps only to mid 40's. A 'wintry mix' is even predicted for late Wednesday and into Halloween. Watched 'OUTRAGE CODA' (Hoopla--last rental of the month) A Korean gangster roughs up a couple of hookers during an S&M encounter and offends a branch of the Japanese Yakuza. Mayhem ensues. My biggest 'take-away' was how similar the Asian crime organizations were to the corporate structure of big business. For both, it's all about the bottom line and that is profit; with Beat Takeshi. Then, 'SALAD DAYS: A DECADE OF PUNK IN WASHINGTON' (Amazon Prime) An in depth examination of the Washington DC punk scene from the late seventies thru the mid 80's. It makes the case that Punk did not originate in the American Northwest, but only evolved from the DC scene. I got a bunch of new music to put on my Amazon Prime. Wrote a reply to Janny's invitation to see Erik Dylan's live show on November 8th at Boondoc...

Mo 10/28/19

Mo 10/28/19 Up 720am: Cloudy to mid 50's. Watched, 'DOELMITE IS MY NAME' (Netflix). Eddie Murphy stars as real-life comedian and Blaxploitation film-maker, Rudy Ray Moore. Overall, only mildly entertaining, but showcases just about all of the black comedians on the scene today (I wonder how come Dave Chappelle didn't make the cut?); with Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Snoop Dogg, Wesley Snipes, and Chris Rock. Then watched, 'ECHO IN THE CANYON' (Netflix). Jakob Dylan hosts a documentary about the creative music of Laurel Canyon from about 1964 to 1968. It's a comprehensive examination of all of the bands that created that scene; with Tom Petty, Lou Adler, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Beck, Michelle Phillips, Cat Power, Ringo Starr, Stephen Stills, John Sebastian. I called Ameriprise Insurance and it won't be worth it to drop State Farm. Ameriprise is twenty dollars more on the car insurance. And then cal...

Su 10/27/19

Su 10/27/19 Up 645am: Partly sunny with temps to low 60's. Wrote up 'CAMINO ISLAND' by John Grisham for the blog. Watched Netflix disc, 'PLEASE GIVE'.  A great ensemble film about a family that lives in Manhattan. They own an upper-end used furniture store and their apartment is next door to a ninety-one year old woman. And, the two grand-daughters take care of the old woman and befriend the family; with Rebecca Hall, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, and Catherine Keener. Then, 'HOT SUMMER NIGHTS' (Amazon Prime) Overall, an engaging film, but maybe a bit too ambitious and covers too much ground. Set on Cape Cod in the late eighties on the eve of a massive hurricane, it comes off as a frenetic clash of 'coming of age', 'teen drug dealing', and 'first love'. However, some good performances by young actors; with Timothee Chalamet, Maika Monroe, Alex Roe. 1245pm: Doing the weekly cleaning, then to FitClub West for the workout and drop...

Sa 10/26/19

Sa 10/26/19 Up 640am: Cloudy, drizzle and light to heavy rain all day- to 50. Watched Netflix disc, 'THE DOUBLE'. Taken from a novella by Dostoevsky and concerns a shy, young office worker who meets his doppelganger who is brash, bold, and a 'disrupter', yet no one notices; with Jesse, Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, and Cathy Moriarty. A strange, somber film with a very dark, yet quirky tone. Then, 'RATTLESNAKE' (Netflix). A mother and her five year old daughter are driving across Texas and get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. While changing the flat, her daughter is bitten by a rattlesnake, but it's some kind of 'bargain with the devil'. Although the daughter is apparently alive, she will die unless mom can find a soul to trade. Not very well written, and could have been an episode of 'BLACK MIRROR' if the script was tightened up. 1145am: Reading 'CAMINO ISLAND' and gave the new 'Big Brother Boom Box' it's fi...

Fr 10/25/19

Fr 10/25/19 Up 711am: Cloudy- to mid 50's. Watched, 'LOVE AND A .45' (Amazon Prime) Obviously an homage to Tarantino, but still worth a look in a cartoonish way. Two star crossed-lovers from rural Texas get caught up in a series of  murders and must flee to the Mexican border; with Gill Bellows, Renee Zellweger, Peter Fonda, and music by Tom Verlaine. Then watched, 'GREEN ROOM' (Netflix) A pleasant surprise. 'Teen Scream Formula' about a punk band who play a Nazi nightclub, stumble upon a murder, and get imprisoned in the room that entertainers wait to perform, hence the title; with Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat, and Imogen Poots. 130pm: To the motor vehicles office on Pine to renew the license. I couldn't just do it with the clerk, but I had to wait. My number was 61, and they were on 19. I just walked out, and I'll send the damn thing in. I thought that it would make it easier and cheaper. Then to the boot store at Cook and Dirksen. I got a...

Th 10/24/19

Th 10/24/19 Up 610am: Cloudy, chilly, temps to mid 50's. Listened to Terry Gross 'Fresh Air' interview an author about a new biography of Janis Joplin. Watched, 'FRESH' (Hoopla) A thoughtful and heartfelt ghetto film, without the anger and manic violence of the genre. Fresh is a young black kid from Brooklyn. He runs drugs for a local dealer, and because he is intelligent and honest, he is respected on the street. But, the environment is just too dangerous and wicked for him to survive; with Giancarlo Esposito and Samuel L. Jackson, and Sean Nelson in the title role. Then, 'STREET THIEF' (Amazon Prime) A 'faux-documentary' that follows the criminal exploits of Chicago career burglar, Kaspar Carr. It's a fictional work, but it really seems to be a record of actual events. I really liked it! 12pm: PC 'Off' and reading 'CAMINO ISLAND', napping because I got up far too early. On the machines at the 'Y' by 145pm. ON...

We 10/23/19- Contemporary Book Club

We 10/23/19- Contemporary Book Club Up 7am: Partly cloudy, windy, to upper 60's. Listened to a YouTube A 24" interview with Eugenia Kim and took notes for the blog on her book, 'THE KINSHIP OF SECRETS'. Watched 'FREE FIRE' (Netflix) Shot near Brighton, East Sussex, England, but the story is set in late 70's Boston. Two crews (one is probably the Irish IRA) meet in an abandoned warehouse to exchange cash for weapons, and the deal goes awry. Kind of clever, witty repartee, and worth a look; with Cillian Murphy. The music of John Denver in a most unlikely setting. Then watched, 'loudQuietloud: A Film About the Pixies - Found Tapes'.  A documentary about the 2004 Pixie's Reunion Tour. A dysfunctional group of individuals, yet they managed to pull it off. 1230pm: To FitClub West. 45" Octane (WTF- Iggy Pop). 45" Walk (TV for the rest of the workout). 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Cross. Home to skim for of the Eugenia ...

Tu 10/22/19

Tu 10/22/19 Up 7am: Blustery, cloudy- to 60's. Watched Netflix disc, 'FRIENDS WITH MONEY'  "Smart, witty and alert to the buried resentments that poke through the shiny surface of affluence, Holofcener's film recognizes that money is the new sex."...The Rolling Stone (dir. Nicole Holofcener). It's pretty much a four woman story about women in their forties, but only some with money. I loved it; with Catherine Keener, Joan Cusack, Frances McDormand, and Jennifer Aniston. Then I watched, 'DARK CRIMES' (Netflix) A Polish detective relentlessly tries to solve a cold case about a murder linked to an 'S&M Sex Club'. His suspect was not the murderer, but the guy's wife was. And, in the last scene, she poisons the detective. Intentionally grim, murky, and depressing; with Jim Carrey and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Only barely worth a watch. Janny sent me an email with the Brandenburg kids' ages and they are on a mini road trip to Nort...

Mo 10/21/19- Computer guy...NO!!!

Mo 10/21/19- Computer guy...NO!!! Up 7am: Blustery and rain through the morning, then sunny with temps in the 60's. I watched 'ATLANTIC CITY' (Amazon Prime) Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon in their prime! A very interesting tale set in 'pre-developed' Atlantic City. Sent the Weekly Wrap with the link to Terry Schaefer and a request for the ages of the grand-kids. Started 'FRACTURE' (Netflix) 1215PM: Called Mr. Meyer the computer guy, and he agreed to meet me at 4pm. I was on the machines at FitClub West by 1245pm: 45" Octane (JOHN PAUL JONES- really pushing it since I knew I didn't have time for a full workout). 45" Walk (TV). ONE HOUR CROSS (TV). **********I got home and booted up the living room PC....AND THE SOUND WORKS!!! I have no idea what I did, but I called Mr. Meyer to cancel the appointment and he said that if I had any further problems to give him a call. I finished 'FRACTURE' and it was slightly better than ...

Su 10/20/19

Su 10/20/19 Up 715am: Partly sunny and temps to mid 60's. Downstairs to watch 'THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE' (Netflix) A Texas advocate to end the death penalty is convicted of rape and murder, and sentenced to death by lethal injection. However, it was all an elaborate 'frame' to demonstrate that the system is NOT infallible. He didn't kill anyone. His victim, who was also an advocate against capital punishment, committed suicide with the aid of others who were in on the hoax;  with Kevin Spacey, Laura Linney, Kate Winslet, and a small Gothic role for Melissa McCarthy. A bit hard to believe, yet a compelling bit of storytelling. Then watched, 'TELL ME WHO I AM' (Netflix) Alex and Marcus are identical twins. In the early 80's Alex lost his memory after a motorcycle accident. Marcus teaches him about what Alex has forgotten, however Marcus chooses to delete dark secrets from their past. Thirty years later Marcus levels with Alex about the dire truth. ...

Sa 10/19/19- Lost Sound PC Living Room!!

Sa 10/19/19- Lost Sound PC Living Room!! Up 710am: Sunny to high 60's. Yesterday's attempt to use the phone with the speaker bar made the PC drop ALL sound! I will call Sundown when they open at 10am. Downstairs to watch Netflix disc, 'NOW YOU SEE ME 2'. Four magicians or consummate artists of sleight of hand resurface (this is a sequel) and mastermind an elaborate heist to steal a computer chip that would allow the user to hack into any computer system known to man and end online privacy as we know it. Only mildly entertaining, and close to a comic book superhero type of film, however it has a stellar cast; with Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave franco, Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Caine, and Lizzy Caplan. I called Sundown and it will cost $95 and they can't get to me until October 28th at 130pm. I gave Geek Squad a call and hung up in desperation. I called Best Buy, and they connected me to corporate office, where I was put on hold for far ...

Fr 10/18/19- Gabe's Window Adjustment

Fr 10/18/19 Up 710am: Sunny and temps to around 60, Watched 'LIFE AFTER BETH' (Hoopla) An hilarious take on the Zombie Genre...."Stop saying that, she's not a zombie, she's resurrected"! After dying from a snake bite while on a hike, Beth comes back....but she's not the same; with Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Cheryl Hines, and a small, yet amazing performance by Anna Kendrick. Then, 'THE LAUNDROMAT' (Netflix) A biting satire about the international monetary system and insurance fraud- 'The Panama Papers' as entertainment; with Gary Oldman, Meryl Streep, Antonio Banderas, David Schwimmer, and an unrecognizable Sharon Stone- Directed by Steven Soderbergh. Dumped a bunch more music on to my Amazon Music. 130pm:Then reading 'THE KINSHIP OF SECRETS' and waiting for the call from Gabe's. Another late night workout? I read for two hours in the living room chair and just after 4pm I got a call fr...

Th 10/17/19- Dentist at 2pm: Crown

Th 10/17/19- Dentist at 2pm: Crown Up 715am: Sunny, calm, temps to about 60. Wrote up 'DEAD FOLKS BLUES' Steven Womack for the blog. Watched Netflix disc, 'BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER'; An absurdist and campy take on the, 'Pray The Gay Out Movement'; with Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Michelle Williams, Julie Delpy, and RuPaul. Then, 'GET THE GRINGO' (Amazon Prime) Mel Gibson plays an arch-criminal who robs the mob, crashes through the US- Mexico border wall, and ends up in a Mexican prison after stealing a few million US dollars. The most interesting thing is that the movie is set in a Mexican penal institution that is described, "as the world's shittiest shopping mall". Prisoners can buy anything that they want- drugs, alcohol, restaurant food, etc, and they can even have their families live with them (for a price). Other than that, it's a standard 'tough guy, shoot-em-up'; with Dean Norris form 'BREAKING BAD'. ...

We 10/16/19- HAIRCUT YESTERDAY!!!

We 10/16/19- HAIRCUT YESTERDAY!!! Up 720am: Partly cloudy, breezy, and chilly- temps only to mid 50's. Watched Netflix disc, 'ALL IS TRUE'.  William Shakespeare returns home after his London theater has burned to the ground. However, his long absence from the family has made reintegration to his home life very difficult. A a well-done film, but probably the main plot point is hypothetical. That his son Hamnet drowned is only speculation as records say that he died in a plague, but it's no denying that this makes for a fine story. Then watched a twenty minute short film on Netflix called, 'GHOSTS OF SUGAR LAND'    A Muslim group of guys discuss their thoughts and fears about one of their black friends who converted to Islam and then left America to join the Jihad. Sugar Land, Texas is a suburb of Houston. I called Gabe's and cancelled the appointment for today and tomorrow. He'll call on Friday and maybe we can set something up. The watched ...

Tu 10/15/19

Tu 10/15/19 Up 750am: Cloudy with a threat of rain this morning- mid 60's. Watched 'THE FOREST OF LOVE' (Netflix) Strange, violent, and odd.... “The Forest of Love — an exuberant psycho-sexual blood-feast made by the kind of movie-obsessed madman whose irrepressible life force can only be expressed through a camera lens." "The Forest of Love is a bizarre pitch-black tragicomedy that's fully immersed in excess in all forms". A group of girls stage 'Romeo and Juliet' for a high school production, and meet up with a group of boys who are making a movie. Then, a con-man gets them all to follow him and madness ensues....And, there's also a serial killer on the loose. The film is like nothing else! Gabes's called and the repairman will call back tomorrow around lunch time and maybe stop in late tomorrow afternoon. He's doing some work in New Berlin. The dentist called to say that they are offering a 15% sale Wednesday and Thursday...

Mo 10/14/19

Mo 10/14/19 Up 730am: Bright and sunny with temps to the low to mid 60's. Watched 'FRACTURED' (Netflix) While on a road trip a family stops at a hospital emergency room to get treatment their little girl who had broken her arm in a fall outside of a gas station. Dad waits all day in reception, yet after a shift change, there is no record of the admission of his daughter and his wife is nowhere to be found. This film got bad reviews, but I kind of enjoyed it. It was all in his mind. Then, 'FOREST OF LOVE' (Netflix). However, I realized that it was over two and a half hours, so I'll watch it tomorrow morning. And decided to watch 'CRASH' (Netflix) A star- studded film about Racism in Los Angeles with interconnected plots and character arcs. A little corny, but well worth a look; with Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Tony Danza, Matt Dillon, Terrence Howard, and Ludacris. Writing the Weekly Wrap, and drove to the 'Y' before 245pm and on the mach...

Su 10/13/19

Su 10/13/19 Up 730am: Bright and sunny with temps to just above 60. Watched, 'SUSPIRIA' (Amazon Prime- made at Amazon Studios)  Set in the divided Berlin of 1977, a dance company is actually a front for a coven of witches. A young woman from Ohio is accepted to perform with the company and strange and bizarre happenings occur. A completely different approach to The Underworld (DARKNESS, TEARS, SIGHS), and the use of 'dance can be ugly' was brilliant. The set designs, costumes, and choreography were phenomenal. Then watched,'VH1 (INSIDE) OUT: WARREN ZEVON. I'll save the last forty minutes to listen to during the workout at Planet Fitness later. It's about the making of his final album after he had been notified that he had lung cancer and only a couple of months to live. 215pm: Drove to Planet Fitness. 45" Walk (Watched the last part of the Warren Zevon video. He seemed like a very nice, highly intelligent guy). 45" Recumbent Bike (Read abou...

Sa 10/12/19

Sa 10/12/19 Up 725am: A touch of frost last night, and plenty of sun, but temps will barely cross 60. Used the furnace for the first time this season. Watched 'EL CAMINO': A BREAKING BAD MOVIE' (Netflix) Aaron Paul reprises his Jesse Pinkman role and he escapes the bad guys and it ends where he leaves to start a new life in Alaska. Told in an elegant series of flashbacks with a taut and compelling story arc with beautiful cinematography.  The movie is a delightful end to a wonderful saga. Ordered receptacle wall plates and realized that one of the was wrong. Called Amazon Customer Service and cancelled that part of the order. It went without a hitch- I was pleasantly surprised. Watched episode #16 of Season 5 of 'BREAKING BAD'- the last show in the series. I had absolutely no recollection of this final show of the series, but it definitely enhanced 'EL CAMINO'. The movie begins exactly where the series ended.  I think that I'll be re-watching thi...

Fr 10/11/19

Fr 10/11/19 Up very early-550am: Very blustery, chilly and rainy till afternoon, then cold and dreary. Temps barely to 50 from morning highs in the upper to mid 60's. Temperature has dropped almost 25 degrees since early this morning! Janny sent an email that she had seen 'MY DINNER WITH ANDRE' and I wrote about 'GOLDEN EXITS'. Then watched Netflix disc, 'THE FIRST PURGE'...A new political party, 'The New Founding Fathers of America', has taken control of the nation. Based on a socio-political theory, 'The Purge', that if a population is allowed to 'purge' its' collective anger during a suspension of all laws during a twelve hour period, peace and happiness will prevail. Actually, The NFFA is using mercenaries to start Class Warfare...."altogether transfixing for the way it funnels Trump-era terror into an empowering crowdpleaser". Wrote a reply to Janny's email where she recommended 'MY DINNER WITH ANDRE...

Th 10/10/19

Th 10/10/19 Up 640am: Cloudy with rain beginning around noon and rainy the rest of the day- to low 70's. Notified Netflix that 'MILE 22' has not been received. They'll send the next disc available. Watched 'SNATCH' (Amazon Prime) Guy Richie directs a classic English gangster romp. A diamond as big as a baby's fist is stolen in Antwerp, and then stolen again and again and again; with Benicio del Toro, Dennis Farina, Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham, and Brad Pitt is fantastic as a gypsy bare-knuckle fighter. Then, 'HOME IS WHERE THE KILLER IS' (Netflix) A lonely female doctor rents a room to a young woman, and takes over her life. Stars two actresses from 'THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS', and the movie feels much like a soap opera. Just barely OK. 1230pm: PC is on 'Restart' for the updates and reading 'THE TARGET' on the couch. 215pm: In the Elantra heading to the 'Y'. 45" Walk (Watched YouTube interviews with...

We 10/9/19

We 10/9/19 Up 650am: More beautiful weather- Sunny low 70's. Watched 'RETURN TO MONTAUK' (Hoopla) A European writer returns to NYC to promote his new novel and tries rekindle the romance with the girl he left behind. Not a good idea; with Stellan Skarsgard and Nina Hoss. Then, 'ADDICTION: A 60's LOVE STORY' (Amazon Prime)  In the mid sixties a guy quits college to become a driver for an illegal porn operation, and along the way becomes addicted to heroin. Amateurish and almost a student film; with Brendan Sexton III, Leo Fitzpatrick, and the only real star- Carol Kane. Then re-watched the last fifteen minutes of 'GOLIATH' from Monday night. Will do episode #3 tonight. Biked to LA Fitness around 130pm. Had planned on hitting Planet Fitness, but the mall is closer. 45" Walk (Listened to a YouTube interview with Thom Yorke...His 'Albums To Island Picks'). 45" Recumbent Bike (Read THE TARGET; listened to MOUNTAIN). 45" Cross...

Tu 10/8/19

Tu 10/8/19 Up 715am: Another beautiful day with plenty of sun and temps to the low 70's. I wrote up 'RULES OF CIVILITY' for the blog. Watched 'QUICKSAND' (Amazon Prime) Not a bad 'B- Movie' with the 'innocent man on the run' theme. A nerdy bank officer is sent to Monaco delve into some questionable transactions involving a movie company. The company is not making films, but laundering money for the Russian mafia. The bank officer becomes framed for murder and he's on the run in scenic South France; with Michael Keaton, Michael Caine, and a smoking hot, Judith Godreche. Then watched the first hour of a ninety minute doc called, 'JOHNNY WINTER: DOWN AND DIRTY' (Amazon Prime)  'The Frail Blues Giant'...poignant scene when they took him back to his childhood home in Beaumont, TX. He was too sad to see the inside even though the woman who owned the home invited him in. She knew that he and Edgar had spent countless hours practi...

Mo 10/7/19

Mo 10/7/19 Up 7am: Bright, calm, and sunny with a high of 70. Watched 'HARD SURFACES' (Amazon Prime) A very low budget film about a prominent photographer from Winston-Salem NC who learns that he has custody of his dead sister's daughter that he has never met. His problem is that he's addicted to drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, the movie is pretty corny and mostly unbelievable. Then, 'THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN' (Netflix) A seventeen year old high school junior has a brother who is the most popular guy in school and she feels forever in his shadow. But when he hooks up with her best, and only girlfriend, her life collapses. This was surprisingly good, and one of my fave 'teen flicks'. Wrote 'THE WEEKLY WRAP' and sent it of, then biked to the 'Y' just before 2pm. 45" Walk (TV all workout). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Cross. Home to read and finish 'THE RULES OF CIVILITY' on the cou...

Su 10/6/19

Watched 'SHUTTER ISLAND' (IMDBdeepdive) Two federal marshals travel to Shutter Island to investigate a missing patient. However, one marshal is actually a patient at the hospital and he's suffering from delusions because he cannot accept the fact that he shot and killed his wife after she drowned their three children; with Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson. Then a couple of episodes of 'THE SURREAL LIFE' 2003- (IMDBdeepdive) Seven quasi-celebrities live in Glen Campbell's mansion in LA for ten days. Can they live happily ever after? 1215pm: Reading 'THE RULES OF CIVILITY' and listening to DIGABLE PLANETS. Sa 10/5/19

Sa 10/5/19 Awake 615am and read 'news' on the phone till 645am. Partly cloudy with temps just about 70 and a chance of showers this evening. Watched Netflix disc, 'MILE 22' A top-notch action film, yet not very realistic. If you're into 'chop-socky' and fantasy gun-play, this is the film for you. But for me, not so much. Then, 'DOMINO' (Netflix) Two Danish cops track a terrorist to Spain, and he's also wanted by the CIA. The suspect killed the guy's partner and the female cop was his partner's lover; directed by Brian De Palma, and the only US star is Guy Pearce. Not a bad counter-terrorism thriller, but no masterpiece either. 1145am: PC is 'Off' and read on the couch and listened to AC/DC for about a half hour when I noticed a woman dragging branches from the 'rake roof' house next door. I went outside and I talked to her and her husband for about a half hour. They live in the blonde brick house next to 'rake ...

Fr 10/4/19- Car Wash/ Cut Grass

Fr 10/4/19- Car Wash/ Cut Grass Up 740am: Sunny with temps to the upper 60's. Watched Netflix disc, 'GOLDEN EXITS' A thoughtful drama about how a 25 year old Australian girl on a summer internship intersects the lives of two families. She is to assist a man who is cataloging and archiving the manuscripts and notes of his famous father in law. Set in Carroll Gardens and Red Hook, Brooklyn NY; with Emily Browning, Adam Horovitz, Mary-Louise Parker, Jason Schwartzman, and Chloe Sevigny, and directed by Alex Ross Perry (HER SMELL). I really liked the film! Then, 'A.M.I.' (Netflix) After the death of her mother a teenage girl downloads an app she calls 'Mother', and mayhem ensues. Teen-Scream Film from Vancouver, CA, and more than fairly lame. 145pm: Restart the PC to get yesterday's updates, then taking the Elantra to Green on Vets for a wash, and then on to the Wabash PO and Planet Fitness. After the car wash, on the machines at Planet Fitness by ...

Th 10/3/19

Th 10/3/19 Up 750am: Cloudy and much cooler; low sixties early, and high only 68. Feels delicious! I brought up Hoopla and borrowed, 'THE SICILIAN GIRL', before the library 'reached their limit'. Loosely based on the true story of Rita Atria. She was a seventeen year old Sicilian girl who tried to use the corrupt justice system to prosecute the mafia. Then, 'CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE JESUS JERK' (Amazon Prime) Directed by actor, Eric Stoltz and it's almost an amateurish or student film about a young high school student growing up as a Jehovah's Witness in the early 80's in Fallbrook, CA. He has a normal preoccupation with sex, and this is treated by his fellow believers as though he were Satan incarnate; from a novel by Tony Dushane and there were no film stars in the movie. 145pm: drove to FitClub West and then to the gas station for more beer and the Fairhills Dollar Store for some stuff after the workout. 45" Octane (OFF CAMERA- Zach...

We 10/2/19

We 10/2/19 Up 810am: Hot, humid, with temps close to 90. The very last blast of Summer. Tomorrow the temps will not crack 70, and stay in the 70's for the next ten days or more. Planned to watch, 'THE SICILIAN GIRL' (Hoopla), but then learned that the library had 'reached their limit'...Damn... Did watch 'THE LINCOLN LAWYER' (Amazon Prime) From the novel by Michael Connelly.... Mick Haller defends a very wealthy man charged with rape who claims, 'I didn't do it'!....But he did; with Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, Michael Pena, and Bryan Cranston. I loved it, and anything that comes from Michael Connelly. Then 2 episodes of 'WORKAHOLICS' (Amazon Prime) 130pm: Biked to the 'Y'. 45" Walk (TV all workout). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45"Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Cross. Tu 10/1/19

Tu 10/1/19 Up 730am: Another hot one! Sunny and temps to 90. Watched 'POISON ROSE' (Amazon Prime) A rather basic tale of a hard-boiled, neo-noir, Los Angeles detective set in 1978.
