Most of the film is a build up to a pole dancing competition, but the real story is that mom is dying of cancer. She was being a helicopter parent because she didn't trust that her family could carry on after she had died. Some truly excellent scenes involving the defense of a walled city under siege and this was the (only?) saving grace of the film; with Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Liam Neeson, Michael Sheen, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, Jeremy Irons, and Edward Norton ('The King'- always wears a mask due to disfigurement from leprosy). Questionable Fact: Not everyone who went to Jerusalem during the crusades was after land, money or power. Some went to receive absolution from sin. I wonder how much of this story is historically...

Dad learns that he is not the biological father of his eldest son and that his wife was preparing to leave him.  His ruined marriage and family are more traumatizing to him than the end of civilization. This causes more dread and anxiety than the flesh eating hordes and that's an unusual take for an apocalyptic genre film. An interesting film from Chile that is based on real events. In 1955 a famous Chilean female author shot & killed (execution style) her ex-boyfriend in a crowded hotel restaurant in downtown Santiago. She was so popular with the Chilean people that the President pardoned her even though she had been only sentenced to only 541 days for premeditated murder.
