A robbery team steals millions from a Los Angeles bank and commandeers an ambulance. The female EMT and the wounded police officer in the ambulance become hostages. You really have to suspend disbelief because the chases would never have gone on so long in real life. Literally, dozens of police cars were destroyed in the collateral mayhem and no city authority would have allowed that level of carnage to continue, but in the movie, it works.
