Sa 10/30/21- Penny Lane Chillum

Sa 10/30/21- Penny Lane Chillum 930am. 1250pm (a pinch). 245pm. 915pm. Up 845am: Breezy, partly cloudy with temps to upper 50's. Watched Netflix disc 'CHAOS WALKING'..."The Noise is a man's thoughts unfiltered, and without a filter a man is just chaos walking".  That description sounds almost exactly what it's like to have a 'green panic' on cannabis, but I guess that would be quite difficult to be filmed.  The story is from a very successful young-adult science fiction series by Patrick Ness. The protagonist, Todd Hewitt meets a girl from space who has crash landed on his planet which is 64 light years from Earth. The women on his planet have 'disappeared' and the men's thoughts can be heard by everyone. A somewhat novel presentation of the Information Overload in the real world of today, however I like my 'cannabis freak-out' explanation better. Not a very good film, but the concept was amazing and I wonder what Charlie Kaufma...

Fr 10/29/21

Fr 10/29/21  950am. 1250pm (a pinch). 905pm.  Up 8am: Showers all day with temps to mid 50's. According to my rain gauge we got over an inch of rain yesterday. Watched 'SIDEWAYS' (Amazon Prime). Two guys spend a 'bachelor's Week' in California's wine country and it doesn't go as planned. It's hilarious and touching and I'm glad I caught it before it leaves Amazon Prime; with Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh. Directed by Alexander Payne-  won 1 Oscar, 122 wins & 91 nominations total. Surprised to learn that Alexander Payne produced a Japanese remake of the film in 2009.  Watched the last hour of 'APOCALYPSE NOW' (Netflix)...."The Horror, The Horror"... 220pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing for the treadmill.   240pm: 5 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT... Watched an episode of 'DRUG LORDS'- A young man from a wealthy family corners the Amsterdam hash market and I finished ARI SHAFFIR...

Th 10/28/21

Th 10/28/21 940am. 110pm (a pinch). 925pm.  Up 8am: Rain all day today and through tomorrow with temps to mid 50's. Down the Reddit Rabbithole Watched 'EAGLE EYE' (Netflix). Two strangers are forced to cooperate and assist in a cyberattack on the United States after ultra-right wing software programs interface with the Internet. Lots of extreme 'boom-boom' and about halfway through I realized that I had seen it before, but worth a second look because it was so implausible, yet nonetheless somewhat enjoyable.  Billy Bob Thronton had some funny lines... "If you don't get this right, your next job will involve touching shit with your bare hands"; with Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, Anthony Mackie, and Billy Bob Thornton. Added RONI SIZE- 'V Classic' and OASIS- 'Be Here Now' to the Mp3 player.  Began episode #1 of 'THE MOTIVE' (Netflix). A 14 year old Israeli boy murders his family. Why?  150pm: ...

We 10/27/21

We 10/27/21 925am. 1150am (2 hit chillum). 220pm. 830pm.  Up 745am: Partly cloudy, breezy with temps to 60. Rain predicted for Thursday and Friday. Watched 'HYPNOTIC' (Netflix- just dropped today). This caught my eye because I read a review that started, "Ending of 'HYPNOTIC' explained", however, this was strictly, by-the-numbers 'B-Movie' stuff and no explanation was necessary. A young woman goes to a sleazy therapist who is looking for someone who can 'become' his dead wife. He uses hypnosis to implant happy memories that he and his dead wife shared into the mind of his patient/victim. Corny nonsense about the 'dangers of hypnosis' with a slight twist at the end.  Started 'APOCALYPSE NOW' (Netflix). During the height of the Vietnam war a captain is sent into the boonies to 'terminate with extreme prejudice' a general who has gone rogue; with Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Frederic Forrest, Laurence Fishb...

Tu 10/26/21- Brewer at 220pm

Tu 10/26/21- Brewer at 220pm 940am. 1220pm (a pinch). 250pm. 920pm.  Up 740am: Bright and sunny with temps to about 60. Added 'RABBIT REDUX' by John Updike to 'Books Read'. Watched 'DUPLICITY' (Amazon Prime). A handsome MI6 agent and a sultry female CIA operative cut ties with their respective agencies and collaborate on a big score, but they're being played. A billionaire executive wants to shame a rival over a phony 'cure for baldness' formula and he's using 'the lovers' to put his plan into play.  Terrific dialogue and a dizzy plot makes me wonder why I'd never heard of this film. It's one of my 'Overlooked Films'. Watched the first episode of 'THE RAINCOAT KILLER: Chasing A Predator In Korea' (Netflix). The first modern serial killer in South Korea is on the prowl in Seoul. Interesting Observation: Police in Seoul would only publicize cases that they had already solved. The unsolved cases were never spoken abou...

Mo 10/25/21

Mo 10/25/21 1030am. 7pm (2 hits). 920pm.  Up 8am: Raw, cloudy, and blustery with temps only to low 50's. ***845am-930am- Walked to Brewer to pick up another gel-pen and made an appointment for Buddy to have his blood checked tomorrow at 220pm. Watched 'KNIGHT AND DAY' (Amazon Prime). International locations, a star-studded cast, and a huge budget, yet nothing more than a brainless piece of cinema with endless 'boom boom' and characters that wouldn't be taken seriously in a comic book; with Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, and Paul Dano.   Wrote the 'Weekly Wrap'. 210pm: PC is 'Off' and will hit the treadmill. 225pm: 5 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT...ARI SHAFFIR talks with DOUG SMITH about being  Jehovah's Witness.  On the couch and finished 'RABBIT REDUX ' by John Updike. 635pm: On the treadmill 2 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT and finished DOUG SMITH on SKEPTIC TANK and began a JOEY DIAZ.  7pm: In the tu...

Su 10/24/21- 1st Tub Chillum

Su 10/24/21- 1st Tub Chillum  950am. 635pm (1st chillum bathtime). 920pm.  Up 830am: Very heavy rain 5am and will continue to rain through late morning- temps to low 60's. A 'Flood Watch' and heavy rain is predicted for tonight and another 'Flood Watch' and a 'Tornado Watch';  possibility of  'damaging winds, large hail, and the possibility of a tornado'  was added by 8pm. It could get bad.   Watched Netflix disc 'NOBODY'. Cartoon violence, yet so well done, it works. I think the secret is that the middle-aged hero feels the pain and the savage knocks and blows he takes register with a vengeance. An ex- 'Auditor' (The last person that anyone with a guilty conscience wants to see) is forced to give up his boring suburban lifestyle and realize that his ultra-violence is part of him and he can't give it up. 1225pm: On the treadmill. 5 MILES AT 3.6 PACE AND 0.50 SLANT...I finished DAVE SMITH on 'Skeptic Tank '. Read 'RABBI...

Sa 10/23/21- Last Mow of The Season

Sa 10/23/21 930am. 250pm (a pinch). 830pm. Up 8am: Overcast with temps to almost 60. Watched 'THE FORGOTTEN BATTLE' (Netflix). Battle of Scheldt (Oct.-Nov.1944) was a series of allied missions by English and Polish forces headed by the Canadians. After the Normandy Invasion of June, 1944 the Allies needed a northern port city to launch the final push to end the war with Germany. However, Antwerp's harbor was flooded and heavily mined and a different method must be found for securing this important port city. The story is told through a few parallel, yet disparate story lines and a really superior film! The second most expensive Dutch film ever made. 'BLACK BOOK' was number one and another film that was set during WWII. I've put 'BLACK BOOK' in the queue at Amazon Prime and I'll be viewing that soon. 1230pm: Preparing to mow (at least the back lawn) for the last time this season. Basically I want to run out the tank.   1pm-2pm 305pm: Parkview, Wash.P...

Fr 10/22/21- Green on Dirksen

Fr 10/22/21 950am . 225pm. 930pm.  Up  810am : Cloudy, raw with temps only to upper 50's. ***The car started with no problem, but I called Hyundai to have the electrical system checked. They'll get me in at 130pm today. I began watching the Netflix series 'TO THE LAKE'. Another fine binge-worthy production from Netflix. I'll watch much more of this when I visit Planet Fitness later this afternoon.   13" into episode #3 I shut it down to head to Green on Dirksen at 1245pm. for the 130pm time slot.  I arrived at Green about 115pm and the guys did a battery test. The car battery originally retained an 81% charge (there's a tag on the battery) and after the ride to the dealership today was at 67%. Last night at AutoZone it was 24%.. He recommended that I drive the interstate once a week. Last night at AutoZone they said the Elantra battery was $200, but at Green it's $250 and a $50 installation charge. I took Rt 55 to Rt 72 to Rt 4 and home by 145pm.  And,...

Th 10/21/21- Elantra Dead In Garage

Th 10/21/21-Elantra Dead In Garage  945am. 1235pm (a pinch). 245pm.  10pm (a pinch). Up 745am: Cloudy, breezy, and much cooler- barely to 60. Down the 'Reddit Rabbit Hole'and then I watched 'THE FATHER WHO MOVES MOUNTAINS' (Netflix). I had this in the queue for a long time because I thought it would be too corny because it was supposed to be about a father who fights to find his son after the boy and his girlfriend are lost in a remote mountainous area in Romania.  The father and his ex-wife might be the most disagreeable people I've seen portrayed in a long time. Their arrogance, selfishness, and plain stubbornness was kind of a switch from the 'goody-goody' mom and dad that are usually depicted in such a dire situation. Also, the movie offers a subtle and even more interesting secondary theme about who holds the power to get things done in an authoritarian country. I can definitely see why people hated the film because most people can't stand a film if...

We 10/21/21

We 10/20/21 920am. Noon (a pinch). 210pm. 9pm.  Up 735am: Partly sunny and breezy with temps to the upper 70's. Watched 'VIRTUOSITY' (Amazon Prime). A ham-fisted blend of virtual reality and a 'police/action/adventure' film, but it's so over the top that it's more like a comic book than a screenplay. Some of the movie has a silly tone, almost like the Batman TV show; Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Kelly Lynch, William Forsythe, William Fichtner, Louise Fletcher, and Traci Lords (as Media Zone Singer).   I finished the last hour or so of 'GLADIATOR' (Netflix). Lots of 'hammy' scenes, but they were well written and believable and far superior to the 60's films of this genre. 145pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing for a walk.   220pm: Parkview, Wash. Pk. northside, Lowell, Outer Park, Wiggins, Wash.Pk. southside, up the hill, Parkview, Fairway, and up to 940.   2 HOURS...Mp3...BILL FRISELL-'The Sweetest Punch',  BRAINIACS- ...

Tu 10/19/21

Tu 10/19/21 940am. 1255pm. 855pm.  Up 740am: Mostly sunny with temps to low 70's. I spent some time arranging my calendar for the Dr. Fenner appointments; 11am on Monday, November 1st and 2pm on Monday, January 3rd. I also filed an online report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov at the Federal Trade Commission for the Medicare fraud call I got last week.   Watched 'THE OUTPOST' (Netflix). The film is set on an American outpost in Afghanistan in 2009. The Army post is deep in a valley and nearly impossible to defend, yet in the final battle many soldiers made it out. Because of this loss the Army shutdown all of their bases that were 'obviously undefendable'; with Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom,  and Milo Gibson (son of Mel Gibson). The film is based on the book 'THE OUTPOST: An Untold Story of American Valor' written by Jake Tapper.   1230pm: Preparing for an early afternoon walk.  I had planned to stop at THE DOLLAR GENERAL for nite-lites, ...

Mo 10/18/21

Mo 10/18/21 955am. 1145am (2 hits mini). 930pm.  Up 815am: Bright and sunny with temps to mid 70's. Watched 'THE FLOCK' (Amazon Prime). A format similar to 'The X-Files 'Mulder and Scully' team only this one concerns a male/female duo who keep tabs on violent sexual offenders around the city of  Albuquerque, NM.  And among their 'Flock' of deviates, a serial killer is on the loose and the film has lots of S&M/Bondage Scenes in the creepiest settings; with Richard Gere, Claire Danes, KaDee Strickland, Ray Wise, and Avril Lavigne. ***Maybe it was just how I felt at the time, but the two hits on the mini-pipe really packed a punch.  Although, I still think (insist!) that the design sucks. Unless you hold the tube upright, the weed will just fall out the end. And, this is especially true if you smoke shake. ***Auto-Correct tried to change 'smoke shake' to 'smoke and shake'.  My personal algorithm seems to be whacked.  Watched the last h...

Su 10/17/21- Pot Shop: 815am.

Su 10/17/21 1020am. 305pm. 930pm.  Up 745am: Bright and sunny with temps to 70. ***I lost the 'date/day' on this idiotic Casio, but I got it back and I still don't know how. Got the money together ($163) for the pot shop and on the road to the store at 9am. The total was $150 even for 2 eighths. Out in front of Ascend there were more homeless than patrons and the security force outnumbered us all. Watched 'SEW THE WINTER TO MY SKIN' (Crackle). Based on the story of John Kepe who was a black man in rural South Africa during the 1950's who robbed livestock from Afrikaner's farms and shared his plunder with the black poor. It's essentially a 'silent' film although there is dialogue, great pains are made to tell the story visually. The film was directed by Jahmil X.T. Qubeka and his love of jazz and indigenous music is quite evident. This format is a bit restrictive, but if you apply the effort, the reward is worth it. It was selected as the South ...

Sa 10/16/21

Sa 10/16/21 925am.  Noon (a pinch). 240pm. 9pm.  Up 730am: Bright and breezy with temps barely to 60. ***I changed the furnace filter. The last one was installed on Fr 10/2/20. Watched Netflix disc 'WANDER DARKLY'. At first it seems to be about a film that presents a novel view of 'the afterlife', and then it becomes about a woman dealing with severe trauma and accepting the death of her life partner. They were going through a rocky period in their relationship just before the accident, yet this incident gave her time to come to grips with her real feelings for Mateo. It wasn't a perfect film, but it hit more than it missed. Very ambitious; with Sienna Miller and Diego Luna.  A break in the film about 1030am to change the album art in the living room.  Watched '2 DAYS IN NEW YORK' (Crackle). A couple live in contemporary lower Manhattan and get a surprise visit from the woman's Parisian family and a kooky clash of cultures ensue. Funnier than I expec...

Fr 10/15/21

Fr 10/15/21 930am. 1140am (a pinch). 910pm.  Up 730am: Clouds and showers all day with temps only to about 60. I learned that Peacock is separate from Xfinity TV. When I looked for 'The Lost Symbol' on Xfinity it wasn't offered, however it's on Peacock which is broadcast on Xfinity. Watched 'BILLY BOY' (Peacock). Angry young urban men act out violently in urban Los Angeles. Distract a driver stopped for a train and then beat him senseless (for no reason) and then take the vehicle. A little too melodramatic, but worth a look; with a collection of 'teen' actors slightly past their prime. Before the film I switched the rug in the 'study' for the carpet in the living room under the recliner.  Then 'HALF BAKED' (Peacock) "In the 80's- Anywhere" a stoned snack run lands Kenny in jail for killing a mounted cop's horse. He fed the cop's horse a bag of junk food and the horse dies and Kenny goes to prison. His three friends...

Th 10/14/21- CT IVP/Cystoscopy Call!

Th 10/14/21-   CT IVP/Cystoscopy Call! 950am. 240pm. 930pm. Up 730am: Overcast and rain moving in late this morning with temps only to mid 60's. ***Ran Windows Updates Pending just before 9am, and then I got the call.... At 9am I got a call from Agnes Fener's office. They want to schedule me for a (1) CT IVP- CT Intravenous Pyelogram (CT IVP or CT Urogram) is an exam that uses an injection of contrast material into the veins followed by Computed Tomography imaging to evaluate kidneys, ureters, and bladder; and (2) CYSTOSCOPY- A cystoscopy is a procedure to look inside the bladder using a thin camera called a cystoscope. A cystoscope is inserted into the urethra (the tube that carries pee out of the body) and passed into the bladder to allow a doctor or nurse to see inside. **Dec 20th, 4pm- Dr. Mauer for the Cystoscopy. The other procedure is more expensive and they must check my insurance coverage. I told the nurse of my fraud claim with Medicare and she didn't seem too ...

We 10/13/21- Medicare Fraud!

We 10/13/21- Medicare Fraud! 1030am. 310pm (a pinch). 920pm.  Up 810am: Cloudy with a chance of showers this afternoon and rain predicted for tonight. Temps to low 70's. ***I received a call from someone claiming to be from Medicare. They said they were sending me a new card and they were checking the information.  I gave them my Medicare number. When I hung up I went online and learned that this was a scam. I called Medicare....1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) and reported my fraud claim. They will be sending me a new card and number. Should arrive in two weeks and the old number will be discontinued. However, I must call my doctor and the pharmacy at County Market to alert them of the change.   ***In my defense for stupid behavior is that I thought that the chats that I've had with insurance reps over the last few days might have sent the message to Medicare that I needed a new card. I now know that this line of reasoning does not bear up under close scrutiny...

Tu 10/12/21

Tu 10/12/21 955am. 220pm.  Up 750am: Bright and sunny with temps to mid 70's. I got rid of the ugly, ten dollar toothbrush stand and replaced it with an empty candle jar.  Before adding the 'Cheese' entry I added FLEETWOOD MAC, SLEATER-KINNEY, and 'AGHARTA disc 1' to the Mp3 player. I checked for Windows Updates and restart and noticed the new message that the PC doesn't currently meet all the system requirements for Windows 11.   Call BLH COMPUTERS Phone: (217) 585-1580 "This PC doesn't currently meet all the system requirements for Windows 11". Then it asks to 'Get PC Health Check'. Is this necessary? Watched 'AMERICAN GANGSTER' (Peacock). A cinematic valentine to Harlem drug lord, Frank Lucas. He's portrayed as an ethical man who loved his family and country and the 'real-life' Superfly who just happened to run an international heroin empire; with Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Josh Brolin, John ...

Mo 10/11/21

Mo 10/11/21940am. 940pm. (12 hrs. apart. It happened!) Up 750am: Rain began around 10am and continued through the afternoon. Temps to low 70's. Watched 'THE ATTORNEY' (Amazon Prime). Another movie about Democratization in South Korea. The film is based on the experiences of a lawyer who defended a group of university students who were arrested when they formed a book club to discuss political systems that were not sanctioned by the Korean government. Years later this lawyer later became president of South Korea and later committed suicide after he was charged with corruption and bribery. Not a very good movie, but an interesting subject.  Wrote the 'Weekly Wrap'.  2pm: PC is 'Off' and preparing for a walk on the treadmill.  215pm: 5 MILES AT 3.5 PACE and 0.50 SLANT...I watched more of BERT KREISCHER on J.R.E. then the last episode of ATYPICAL, and began an UNCLE JOEY'S JOINT.  Reading on the couch and finished 'MAO II'' by DON DeLILLO. Su 10/10/21

Su 10/10/21 950am. 245pm. 940pm.  Up 810am: Sunny and breezy with temps to upper 80's. ***The second time in a week that around 5am a black teenager has walked down Westview yelling about picking cotton,  screaming racial slurs, and threatening people to come out and he'd "fuck them up". If it happens again, I should make a complaint on the non-emergency police number.  Last night I thought that I'd repaint part of the planter, but when I looked at it I decided it wasn't worth the effort. It looks good enough.  Watched 'I'M NOT THERE' (Xfinity). The use of several (famous!) actors of different genders, races, and ages provide a mind-bending and nearly psychedelic look at the Myth of Bob Dylan. The film might have made him even more important and relevant than he actually is. Obviously the music was great and to checkout who performed the songs in the credits was a real eye opener. Some of the musical artists include Calexico, The Monkees, Sonic You...

Sa 10/9/21- Painted Porch Stoop

Sa 10/9/21- Painted Porch Stoop 940am. 350pm (a pinch). 920pm.  Up 815am: Partly sunny with temps to low 80's. ***I ground the last little bud from the current 1/8th  and I added the last of the  White Widow Shake that I've had since last spring and it adds just the right amount of fiber to the powder/shake- it packs a whale of a punch.  Watched Netflix disc 'LIGHT OF MY LIFE'. A future in which a virus kills off almost all of the female population and a father conceals the fact that his son is actually his daughter because social and civil order have yet to be re-established. The actual geo-political situation is never revealed, yet there are several meaningful and personal soliloquies throughout the film. A critic said that the film was Casey Afflect's ode to storytelling however the film offers a novel take on the dystopian survival tale. Written, directed, and produced by Casey Afflect. "When you pray, move your feet''-  meaning that prayer will in...

Fr 10/8/21- Mowed the Lawn

Fr 10/8/21 915am. 405pm. 910pm.  Up 745am: Overcast to partly sunny with temps to upper 70's. I attempted to watch 'CRUISING' (Kanopy), the Al Pacino film about a cop who goes undercover in NYC's lurid gay underground scene. Kanopy stopped to 'refresh' twice in twenty minutes so I gave up. No other subscription service is featuring the film. I then decided on 'A TAXI DRIVER' (Amazon Prime). This began as a goofy comedy about a foreign reporter who attempts to hire a taxi to drive him to Gwangju, South Korea from Seoul and soon the film switches gears and becomes an engaging  Action/Political Thriller. I knew nothing of the historical event, but in May of 1980 there was a massive protest in Gwangju, South Korea against the ruling military junta. Hundreds of demonstrators and spectators were killed and the government downplayed the violence and claimed it was the fault of 'outside communist agitators'. This incident marked a new beginning for Sou...

Th 10/7/21- ATT Benefits Call: 11am. 1210pm. 320pm (a pinch). 945pm.  Up 730am: Partly cloudy with a chance for rain later this afternoon with temps to the low 70's. I wrote up 'THE END OF THE DREAM' by Philip Wylie for the blog. I watched a JOEY DIAZ podcast I tried to get a handle on my insurance plans before the call from ATT Benefits that should occur around 11am this morning. I think I know less than I did when I started. My doctor should be selecting the plan, not me. I'm done at 10am and will watch something else until I receive the call. We 10/6/21

We 10/6/21 905am. 1210pm (a pinch). 915pm.  Up 740am: Overcast and rain begins early this afternoon and continues through tomorrow. Temps to the low 70's. Watched 'THE GAMBLER' (Amazon Prime- leaving 10/11). A college English professor has a severe gambling addiction that masks his suffocating view of his own life.  His entire life is binary.  He has limitless possibilities yet he reduces his choices to 'Yes or No', 'To Be Or Not To Be'. There are other options, Bud. This is the movie that has  John Goodman's line about "Two and a half million is 'fuck-you' money"- meaning that this would be the amount that would allow you to do what you want for the rest of your life. "That's your fortress of fucking solitude". I first heard that when I saw the movie the first time and I had 2 and a half million. Now I have more. Watched the last part of 'FOREVER RICH' (Netflix).  'Thug Life' ain't what it's cracke...

Today was the day that I was to schedule an appointment to 'walk me through' the insurance enrollment process for 2022. I was using the Chromebook and when I got to the ATT website it said that some of the information was not available on my browser. I updated Chrome and the whole thing went berserk. I finally got everything back and the browser finally updated. ***Facebook was off the air for most of the day. A massive breakdown in their system that didn't effect me in the slightest.  I went to the living room PC and managed to get on the site.
