Sa 2/29/2020

Sa 2/29/2020 Up 8am: Sunny and temps should break 40. Wrote up 'THE CROSSING' for the blog. Watched Netflix disc, 'FIREWORKS (HANA-BI)'- "Classic Beat Takeshi film". A disgraced ex-cop spends his time caring for his dying wife while planning a bank robbery and a mass murder of a local Yakuza crew. One of the characters takes up painting and the film spends a lot of time showcasing these impressive works of art. All were painted by Takeshi while he was recovering from a near fatal motorcycle accident. Realized that this was the last day of the month and I had one more pick at Hoopla. Today I'll be late for the workout. 'ALRIGHT NOW' (Hoopla). A very odd film about a woman in a 90's rock band who drops out of the Music Biz to attend college at Falmouth University. She gets into a relationship with 'teddy bear of a guy'. None of it was plausible or even very believable; with Cobie Smulders and Richard Elis. 3pm: To Planet Fitne...

Fr 2/28/2020

Fr 2/28/2020 Up 7am: Cloudy, mid 30's with a slight chance of snow that amounted to a couple of very light snow squalls- no accumulation. Watched 'THE ZERO THEOREM' (Kanopy). In a Dystopian/ Steampunk future a man must solve the equation that, "Zero=100%". Silly premise and not much of a story, but it's definitely a Terry Gilliam experience! Sets and costumes are wild; with Christoph Waltz, David Thewlis, Melanie Thierry, Lucas Hedges, and Matt Damon. My post at Kanopy: "A silly premise and not much of a story, but the sets, characters, and costumes are zany, so it's most definitely a Terry Gilliam experience!  Probably not his best work, but if you're a fan of the director it's very much worth a look." Then watched, 'DARK RIVER' (Amazon Prime). "a woman trying to run the family tenant sheep farm after her father's death and confronting her own traumatized past in the process." Set in an area of England nor...

Th 2/27/2020

Th 2/27/2020 Up 715am: Partly sunny with temps to upper 30's. Ordered two more books from Amazon that were selected by the Contemporary Book Club; 'MEET ME AT THE MUSEUM' and 'CHARMING BILLY'. Watched, 'SEX & DRUGS & ROCK & ROLL' (Kanopy). A fictionalized biopic of the rock star, Ian Dury; with Andy Serkis (he was fantastic as Ian), Olivia Williams, Toby Jones, and Ray Winstone. Then watched, 'CHRONICALLY METROPOLITAN' (Netflix). An affluent young writer returns to NYC after a self-imposed exile to San Francisco. His ex-girlfriend is set to marry in a few days, his philandering father is recovering from a car accident, his mother is finally going to leave his father and she's also buying marijuana from one of his best friends. Another 'rich folks saga', not bad, but just barely worth a look; with Shiloh Fernandez, Addison Timlin, and Mary-Louise Parker. 145pm: To the 'Y'.  45" Cross (TV all workout). 4...

We 2/26/2020- Book Club Tonight

We 2/26/2020- Book Club Tonight Up 710am:We got about three or four inches last night. Today it should stop late this morning and temps will be in the lower thirties with wind gusts close to 30 mph. 745-810 am: Out to shovel and take the blue can to the curb. 1210pm: Got a robocall from Republic saying that they will run two to three hours behind today. Wow! Watched, 'THE LAST THING HE WANTED' (Netflix). A female reporter gets caught up in a bizzare arms deal in Central America in Reagan's America. Surprisingly weak, considering the leads in the film; with Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck (I thought this was an actor that looked like Ben Affleck!), Rosie Perez, and Willem Dafoe. Read reviews of 'EDUCATED' and skimmed some of the Ebook. 1230pm: To Planet Fitness for a workout and then back to shower and hit the meeting. 45" Walk (JONESY'S JUKEBOX). 45" Recumbent Bike (Read 'EDUCATED' and listened to THE SMITHS and STEELY DAN). 45" Wa...

Tu 2/25/2020

Tu 2/25/2020 Up 730am: At 815am it's slightly above freezing, but it's snowing like mad- big, lazy flakes. This ended by 10am, but the snow begins again late this afternoon and to continue through Wednesday morning; 2-4 inches posible. Watched, 'MICKEY AND THE BEAR' (Kanopy). Dad suffers from PTSD from his service in Iraq and he's totally unhinged. Then he begins confusing his feelings for his daughter with his dead wife. No stars, but this is a fine dramatic film; Cami Morrone is one stunning looking actress . What I wrote at Kanopy: "An unnerving look at an almost incestuous relationship between a father and daughter. It's a compelling psychosexual drama, but it kinda gave me the creeps, but the film is most definitely worth a look". I just happened to notice another film starring Cami Morrone called, 'NEVER GOIN' BACK' (Amazon Prime). "It’s essentially a stoner comedy with two young ladies in the parts that would have on...

Mo 2/24/2020- Mike Berg Repairs Furnace

Mo 2/24/2020- Mike Berg Repairs Furnace Up 7am: Used the alarm on my phone. 40's and rain beginning late this morning and to continue for the next day or so. A chance for snow Tuesday evening, but no accumulation. Berg and an assistant arrived just after 8am. I was writing an email to Janny. The motor had seized up on the furnace and they left to pick up a new one downtown. He heard that the bearings that were used might have been defective so they only last up to five years. Not positive news. We're up to around $400-$500...and counting. The entire process took less than an hour including the trip downtown to pick up a new motor. $485 and I wrote a check on the Ameriprise account. The guy didn't give me a receipt (he said he didn't have them with him?), but the check will act as proof of payment. I'll make a copy of what he did and include the check copy and tape it to the furnace (for future reference). Watched, 'HONEY BOY'(Amazon Prime). Shia LaBe...

Su 2/23/2020- HEAT STILL OFF! EVACUATION AT THE 'Y'.

Su 2/23/2020- HEAT STILL OFF! EVACUATION AT THE Y. Up 730am: Partly sunny to mid 50's. ***About 9am I called Mike Bergen and he called back and we set up an appointment for 9am tomorrow. He said that he would come today, but there is nowhere to buy parts on Sunday. Watched Netflix disc, 'UNBROKEN' (DIR. Angelina Jolie and screenplay by the Coen Brothers). A Christian based film that was not dopey or hokey, but dangerously close. Louis Zamperini was a high school track star and slated for the Olympics, but WWII intervened. Zamperini becomes a bombardier and his plane is shot down, and he's lost at sea for 45 days. Then he's 'rescued' by the Japanese, spends the remainder of the war in a brutal Japanese prisoner of war camp. But, he makes it back to the US to reconnect with all of his loved ones. The tone of this film is straight out of the 1940's or 50's, and I'm sure it's very popular in Republican circles. Then the final episode of ...

SA 2/22/2020- FURNACE NOT WORKING!

SA 2/22/2020- FURNACE NOT WORKING! Up 7am: Sunny with temps to upper 40's. Watched Netflix disc, 'DIRTY GRANDPA'. His wife dies and grandpa takes his grandson on a road trip. ***"Right before his wedding, an uptight guy is tricked into driving his grandfather, a lecherous former Army Lieutenant Colonel, to Florida for Spring Break"***. Foolish and silly. Does De Niro need the money?; with Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Zoey Deutch, Aubrey Plaza, Jason Mantzoukas, and Dermot Mulroney. Then watched, '16 YEARS OF ALCOHOL' (Kanopy). A Scottish man deals with his addiction to violence and alcohol. About what you would expect from a low budget Independent. 130pm: To the Wabash PO to mail the disc and then Planet Fitness for the workout. 45" Walk (TRUE CRIME- MARCIA CLARK, BILLIONAIRES BOYS CLUB). 45" Cross (TRUE CRIME). 45" Recumbent Bike (Read 'THE CROSSING' listened to COP SHOOT COP). 30" Walk (NARCOS- Netflix). 30" Cros...

Fr 2/21/2020

Fr 2/21/2020 Up 716am: Sunny to high 30's. Watched, 'TERM LIFE' (Netflix). Produced by Vince Vaughn. "A guy wanted around town by various hitmen hopes to stay alive long enough for his life insurance policy to kick in and pay out for his estranged daughter; with Vince Vaughn, Bill Paxton, Jonathan Banks, and Hailee Steinfeld." Then watched, 'JEZEBEL' (Netflix). A film adapted from the real-life experience of writer/director, Numa Perrier as a sex worker in the late 90's. It a disconcerting look at a day in the life of an Internet "cam girl"; with Tiffany Tenille and Numa Perrier. 115pm: To Planet Fitness ****Took one 'pot mint' at 130pm, and then another during the workout at 230pm. A very focused workout! 45" Walk (Watched several episodes of JONESY'S JUKEBOX for the entire workout...2 guys from SIMPLE MINDS, PAUL STANLEY, etc.). 45" Cross. 45" Recumbent Bike. 30" Walk. 30" Cross. Home to ha...

Th 2/20/2020

Th 2/20/2020 Up 7am: Mostly sunny to upper 20's. Watched, 'FORCE MAJEURE' (Kanopy). I had seen this before, but very much worth another look. My post about the film on Kanopy: "This is a wry, philosophical film that poses a question. Can a split second faint-hearted decision make you into a true coward? Some reviews of the film call the film funny, however the film is really not humorous at all, unless you have a particularly unnerving sense of humor." Then watched, 'THE CRAZIES' (Hoopla).  A picturesque Iowa town is driven insane by a toxin released into the water supply; with Timothy Olyphant. When the bad guys tried to overpower the good guys while they are driving through a car wash was my favorite scene in the film. This was worth a look. Send a couple of replies to the Brandenburgs in Orange Beach, Alabama. 130pm: To the 'Y'. When I got there I noticed that there were hardly any cars in the parking lot. I knew something was wrong...

We 2/19/2020

We 2/19/2020 Up 730am after going to bed at 1030pm, Well rested. Partly sunny with temps to mid 30's. Watched 'AMERICAN DREAMER' (Amazon Prime). Uber driver makes a deal with a local gang boss- 'Be my driver for two days and you get two grand'. Then, a series of killings and one infant kidnapping occur. Almost a wicked satire, but very compelling; with Jim Gaffigan as the driver. I really liked this one! Then watched, 'COPENHAGEN' (Amazon Prime). A young man travels through Europe, sees the sights, meets friends, and stays in hostels. He has a letter from his recently deceased father to his grandfather that he is trying to deliver. He falls hard for a fourteen year old Danish teenager and she helps him deliver the less than sensational message. Lots of great shots of the city and an unusual love story. Very much worth a look. Then the end of 'HIRED GUN' (Amazon Prime) that I began last night. 'FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH'? Another super-g...

Tu 2/18/2020

Tu 2/18/2020 Up 7am: Gray, raw, breezy- to upper 30's. Watched, 'GIRLHOOD' (Kanopy). My post on Kanopy: "The film is an examination of Race, Class and Gender through the lens of a female coming of age melodrama. It's realistic, yet depressing since none of the characters have any positive direction because there is nothing positive in their lives. I'd rate the film- "A Compelling Downer"." Then, 'FIRST LOVE' (Hoopla)."...story of a young boxer and a call girl, who fall passionately in love while getting innocently caught up in a drug-smuggling scheme over the course of one night in Tokyo." A couple of beheadings, some weird hallucinations, and several crazed gunfights, and even a cartoon car chase make this a strange film, indeed. It's a kind of noirish Yakuza film with crooked cop flourishes; directed by Takashi Miike. 130pm: To the 'Y' and then later to County Market/ Fairhills for the weekly shopping. ...

Mo 2/17/2020

Mo 2/17/2020 Up 730am: Predicted to rain all day and expecting a little more than a half inch- mid 40's. Watched 'AMERICAN ASSASSIN' (Netflix). A young man proposes marriage, and then, in an instant,  his girlfriend and dozens of others are brutally gunned down in a terrorist shooting on the beach at their resort. This turns the guy into a crazed anti-terrorist and he is schooled by Michael Keaton who is equally nuts, but maybe more adept. A watchable 'action/ adventure', but recycles the phony hypothesis that 'ya can beat the truth' out of anyone. Then, watched 'STOP-LOSS' (Amazon Prime). The title refers to an unethical method of extending tours to war zones 'at the discretion of the president'.  Produced by MTV and chock full of 'young talent'; with Ryan Phillippe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum, Abbie Cornish, and Timothy Olyphant. Then two episodes of 'GOOD MYTHICAL MORNING' (YouTube) Two guys compare grille...

Su 2/16/2020

Su 2/16/2020 Up 640am: Partly cloudy with temps to about 40. Watched, 'LOCKE' (Kanopy). A concrete engineer drives from Birmingham to London to be with a woman who has told him that he's going to be a father and that she's having the baby tonight. Also, tomorrow is the biggest concrete pour of his company's history and it's vital that he oversee the preparation, and his wife and sons are completely in the dark about Dad's other life. All shot in his car as he tries to save the pour, confess to his wife, and sooth a woman that he barely knows; Tom Hardy is excellent as the harried man. Not a bad film, but not without flaws. Then, 'THE HAUNTING OF SHARON TATE' (Amazon Prime). The film is a kind of alternative reality to the events on Cielo Drive in early August of 1969. Supposedly Sharon Tate had a dream over a year before her death that she would be murdered and hung in their house in the Hollywood Hills; with Hilary Duff. 1215pm: PC is 'O...

Sa 2/15/2020

Sa 2/15/2020 Up 650am: Cloudy to mid 30's, however no real melting. Watched Netflix disc, 'MARIA BY CALLAS'. Large chunks of the film are in another language and there are no subtitles. Very irritating! How could this have been allowed to be released? The biggest takeaway is that Callas had a nine year relationship with Aristotle Onassis and then he left her to marry Jackie. Later Callas and Onassis had an affair, ended it, yet remained friends. Not a very good bio. Then watched, 'THE COLDEST GAME' (Netflix). A strange film set during the October, 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis that concerns an international chess meet between the US and Russia. I'm not clear as to how the win or loss of this chess game had any effect on nuclear strategy. The description at Imdb: "During 1962's Cuban missile crisis, a troubled math genius finds himself drafted to play in a U.S.-Soviet chess match -- and a deadly game of espionage." Bill Pullman was the only Ame...

Fr 2/14/2020

Fr 2/14/2020 Up 650am: Frigid temps with below zero wind chills- sunny. Paid the cards. Watched Netflix dis, 'HEAVENLY CREATURES' and I received the trilogy by Anne Perry in the mail yesterday. From Roger Ebert's review of the film: "Sometimes tragedies happen because each person is waiting for someone else to say "no!" In the case of Pauline and Juliet, that truth is complicated by their own emotional maladjustments. What makes Jackson's film enthralling and frightening is the way it shows these two unhappy girls, creating an alternative world so safe and attractive they thought it was worth killing for." A Peter Jackson film starring Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet. Then watched 'JOHN & YOKO: ABOVE US ONLY SKY (Netflix). I learned about this film from Maron's interview with Sean Lennon on WTF. From Imdb: "Film telling the untold story of John Lennon's 1971 album Imagine, exploring the creative collaboration betw...

Th 2/13/2020

Th 2/13/2020 Up 7amn: cloudy, breezing with temps only in the mid teens. About four inches of snow fell yesterday and the trees are all coated with snow. Watched 'DESOLATE' (Netflix) Set in a dystopian future where a prolonged drought has broken a town and violence reigns. Brother turns against brother. Just barely worth a look. No stars and very low budget. *****1030am: PC Restart and Updated and then watched, 'JASPER TEXAS' (Amazon Prime). The 1998 story of a hate crime against a black man in a small town in southeast Texas. Three White Supremacists beat a 49 year old black man, and then dragged him chained to their pickup truck for three miles; with Jon Voight, Lou Gossett Jr., Joe Morton, and Bokeem Woodbine. 130pm: Out to do some shoveling and I might no even leave the house. I need to pick up two bags of cat food from the Walmart on South Sixth and the Tamsulosin order to be picked up tomorrow at the Walmart off of Vets. ****Here's What Actually Hap...

We 2/12/2020

We 2/12/2020 Up 640am: Cloudy and snow beginning late this morning and to continue through Thursday night. Three to five inches for today and one to three more through the night. Watched 'DIRTY HARRY' (1971) (Netflix). Callahan cracks a sniper case only to learn that evidence critical to the state's case is judged in admissional; Clint Eastwood; Terrence Malick and John Milius are listed as 'uncredited' screenplay writers. Then watched, 'CARTEL LAND- Vigilante Groups Fighting Mexican Drug Cartels' (Kanopy). One vigilante group is on the US side of the border and the other is a civilian group deep in Mexico and they both wage war against the cartels. I guess both groups are enemies of the government, but they are only protecting themselves from a threat that is very real. ****Began snowing at noon, so I want to get back before it gets too bad outside. 1230pm: To Planet Fitness with watch the rest of 'CARTEL LAND' tonight. 1245pm: on the ma...

Tu 2/11/2020

Tu 2/11/2020 Up 720am: Cloudy to partly cloudy with temps to upper 30's. Watched, 'TAKE ME HOME' (Hoopla). Distraught NYC woman gets a down-on-his-luck taxi driver to take her to California to see her ailing father. A rather pleasant 'road movie/ love story' by husband and wife couple, Sam Jaeger and Amber Jaeger; with Lin Shaye. ******Ordered the two bags of dry cat food, but they only have it at the Walmart on South Sixth. I'll pick it up and hit FitClub South tomorrow. Then, 'MADNESS IN THE METHOD' (Amazon Prime). Jason Mewes wrote and directed this film that's a crazy fictional story about his difficulties with being typecast. I'm running late, so I'm saving the last twenty minutes for tonight. 140pm: To the credit union to replace the four fifties and then on to the 'Y' for the workout. On the machines at the 'Y' by 215pm. 45" Walk (TV). 45" Cross (Listened to Jared Cohen- Google executive, political ...

Mo 2/10/2020

*****For some reason I never sent the extensive notes that I made this morning, so this is 'how it was' from the perspective of 829pm on Monday evening****** Mo 2/10/2020 Up 640am: Mostly cloudy and mid 30's for the high. I watched a crazy Scorsese film called 'BRINGING OUT THE DEAD' (Amazon Prime). A chronicle of three nights in the life of a NYC ambulance nurse. He's crazed, unhinged, and only wants to be fired, but he's too badly needed; with Nicolas Cage, Patricia Arquette, John Goodman, Ving Rhames, and Tom Sizemore. Cage's character is similar to the guy that he portrayed in 'LEAVING LAS VEGAS'. Then I watched, 'THE HORSE GIRL' (Netflix); with Alison Brie (One of the stars of GLOW) and Molly Shannon. Chicago Sun Times:"Brie’s performance is open and honest and disturbing and funny and lovely and resonant. The work is so good and so convincing that even when Sarah is spouting the craziest of her mad theories, there’s a ...

Su 2/9/2020- First Stoney Sunday!!

Su 2/9/2020 Up 730am: Wintry Mix predicted but just clouds, drizzle, and showers all day: mid 30's. Wrote up THE ESCAPE- David Baldacci for the blog. Watched Netflix disc, 'THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD'; Dir. Peter Jackson. Restored and colorized film footage of WWI make it seems like 'The Great War' happened just yesterday. I've never seen trench warfare fought under sunny skies, but I guess occasionally that really happened. Strange fact: When the war ended there were no jobs for the veterans and the civilians had no idea what the soldiers went through. The average person thought that it was just one big cavalry charge and were not in the least bit interested in the truth. Then watched, 'ANNE PERRY- INTERIORS' (Amazon Prime). The film is basically a study of Perry's writing technique in her home in very rural Northern Scotland. She lives with her brother and several assistants and they are all practising Mormons. She writes on a leather recliner...

Sa 2/8/2020

Sa 2/8/2020 Up 7am: Overcast with temps to low 30's. Watched 'RAISING CAIN' (Netflix). Brian De Palma's stylish thriller that is compelling, yet completely unhinged. John Lithgow plays a child psychologist with multiple personalities. He's trying to study early child development, but murder and mayhem become part of the process. Excellent soundtrack and exquisite cinematography, but the story is almost laughable. "Overall, De Palma creates a very lurid yet exciting film about a child psychologist falling apart over his marriage and dark family traits." Then the last segment of 'HAPPY HOUR' (Kanopy). ****Got messages from Jamie about a party for Joe next Saturday at Texas Longhorn. "My best regards but I'm afraid I'll be repairing my umbrella that evening". My comment on Kanopy: "The film is a stark melodrama that details the lives of four, 30-something, Japanese women. It's beautifully shot, but it's basi...

Fr 2/7/2020

Fr 2/7/2020 Up 715am: Overcast to partly sunny, 30's and with a slight chance of snow until Sunday. Watched Netflix disc, 'BEYOND THE CLOUDS'. Four very odd short stories. The dialog is almost completely composed of non sequiturs. I agreed with the most positive review and the most negative....Both seemed to be true. "As we watch, we can sense, once again, the eye of a painter, the dreams of a poet and, tying them together, the vision of a master." "It's not easy to endure, despite -- or due to the embarrassment of -- an all-star cast." 1) Instead of ravishing a new love, he sleeps... 2) "I stabbed my father 12 times"... 3) In three years he hasn't tired of his Parisian lover... 4) "Tomorrow I join a convent"... And then episode 2 of the Japanese film, 'HAPPY HOUR' (Kanopy). One of the women disappears, then reappears...A son gets his girlfriend pregnant and his mother and grandmother apologize...The nurs...

Th 2/6/2020

Th 2/6/2020 Up 630am: The snow stopped around 8pm last night and we only got an additional fraction of an inch. Today it will be cloudy and temps just below freezing. I watched the first third of 'HAPPY HOUR' (Kanopy). The story of four contemporary Japanese women in their mid-thirties. Themes of divorce, estrangement, and inability to communicate are developed. It's a strange presentation because the pace is unlike cinema, but more like real life....I guess this is the objective, and the film has won many awards. I will definitely watch Part II and Part III. Then watched, 'THE OTHER GUYS' (Netflix). Two detectives on the NYC police force try to become 'top cops'. Mayhem ensues. Lots of car chases, fights, and crazy action sequences- silly fun; with Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, and small parts for Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. 1220pm: PC is 'Off' and will read/ nap and hit LA Fitness later.......

We 2/5/2020

We 2/5/2020 Up 730am: Cloudy with snow beginning late this morning. A few inches are predicted today and maybe a couple of inches tonight before it ends late tomorrow morning. Watched 'CLOSE ENEMIES' (Netflix). A very fine French police procedural...."Driss and Manuel are two childhood friends who end up taking opposite paths: Manuel chose to embrace the thug life, while Driss becomes a cop. When Manuel's biggest deal goes terribly wrong, the two men meet again and come to realize they both need each other to survive in their worlds." Subplot: Muslims from Algeria trying to 'blend' in a racist France. Snow beginning right at 11am as predicted. Watched another two episodes of 'TED BUNDY: FALLING FOR A KILLER' (Amazon Prime). Bundy heads to Utah and Colorado and continues his killing spree. Elizabeth Kendall is conflicted and can't rectify the Ted she knew with his alleged crimes. Then he escapes Twice! from authorities in Colorado. This ...

Tu 2/4/2020

Tu 2/4/2020 Up 715am: Overcast with temps to mid 30's. Wintry Mix to begin late this afternoon, and by the time it's over we could get one to two inches. Watched Netflix disc,'WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (1979)'. The first twenty minutes are probably the scariest ever filmed, then it seems to lose intensity, but kicks back in gear for the finale; with Carol Kane, Charles Durning, and Colleen Dewhurst. "Did you check on the children"?...."The call is coming from inside the house". Then watched, 'AMERICAN DHARMA' (Kanopy). Basically this is just a debate between two men, but Morris's inventive visual presentation make it interesting to watch. Movie footage from classic films are introduced to highlight certain points of the discussion. In the end neither man is right or is wrong, so maybe the style overwhelmed the substance. This is my post at Kanopy: "Basically, this is just a kind of debate between two men with vastly different p...

Mo 2/3/20- I'm Seventy-One!

Mo 2/3/20- I'm Seventy-One! Up 7am: Partly sunny and temps to break 60! I wrote up 'SAY WHEN' for the blog. Watched, 'ADOPT A HIGHWAY' (Hoopla). Just released from a California prison for serving 21 years for an ounce of pot, a man finds a baby abandoned in the dumpster behind the restaurant where he is employed as a dishwasher. He keeps the baby for a day or two, turns it in, then leaves the state to travel to his family home in Casper, Wyoming. His father has passed away and he learns that he has inherited a valuable stamp collection and he places some of the money in a trust for Ella, the baby that he found. He spends the rest of inheritance to travel. A small film, but a very affecting performance by Ethan Hawke. Then, watched 'FLASHBACKS OF A FOOL' (Amazon Prime). Not a bad film, but certainly not very good. It's about death, missed opportunities and wrong decisions.  A washed up Hollywood film star learns of a close friends death and he he...

Su 2/2/2020

Su 2/2/2020 Up 7am: The sun is back and temps almost to 60! Watched 'LEGEND' (Netflix). The story of sixties London mobsters, 'The Krays'- Ronnie (the mad one) and Reggie Kray. Tom Hardy was fantastic as he portrays both twin brothers. I was shocked to learn that he is also Solomon on PEAKY BLINDERS; also with David Thewlis and Emily Browning. Then watched the first episode of, 'FALLING FOR A KILLER'. The story of Ted Bundy's relationship with Elizabeth Kendall and her daughter, Molly at the very beginning of his cross country killing spree. This is going to be a fine series! On the road to the 'Y' a little after 1pm. 45" Walk (TV all workout). 45" Recumbent Bike. 45" Cross. 30" Walk. 30" Cross. Stopped at the gas station at Durkin for a 15 pack of beer. Then home to do the weekly cleaning, and then downstairs to read more of 'SAY WHEN' and listen to SAM PHILLIPS and SANTANA. Then in the tub and finished ...

Sa 2/1/2020

Sa 2/1/2020 Up 730am: More cloudy weather with temps to mid 30's. Diarrhea continues yet maybe getting better. Constipation ahead? Watched 'EYE FOR AN EYE' (Netflix)..."A drug dealer looking for rest. A nurse looking for revenge. A crossroads where no one is safe"....An imprisoned elderly drug kingpin is suffering from a degenerative disease and is placed in a nursing home to finish his sentence. His male nurse lost a brother to drugs, so he addicts the dealer to  the same drugs that he pushes. The twist is that the kingpin leaves all of his money to the nurse, and, out of revenge, the dealer's family murders the nurse's wife, and his life is ruined. Filmed in Spain just north of Portugal; stars Luis Tosar. A fine film! Then watched, 'THE TICKET'(Amazon Prime- leaving 2/5). "For fifty years a man pleads with god to let him win the lottery. God would have done it, but the man never bought a lottery ticket."... A man has been blind ...
