Richard Pryor gets a writing credit. Questionable at first, but after watching the film it makes brilliant sense. A timeless classic that's shocking, provocative, racist, and side-splitting; with Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman, and Mel Brooks. Released in 1974 and it isn't one second less funny almost a half century later.  ***Bathroom faucets are steadily leaking. Handyman or Plumber is needed. I will get in my four miles on the treadmill and then head to the lake district or North 19th.  4 MILES all at 3.5 pace and watched the last part of the 'UTOPIA' (Amazon Prime) episode I began last night and another episode of 'UTOPIA' and some of  'HOW NEAL FEEL'.  11am: PC is 'Off' and going to hit the treadmill, eat a bowl of rice and head out.  4 MILES on THE TREADMILL and watched another complete episode of 'UTOPIA' (Amazon Prime). Called Brewer to pick up another gel-pen later today. Watched 'OPERATION FINALE' (Netflix). A rather bland exploration of the capture of Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1960. Eichmann's son was dating a girl who figured out who his father was and notified the Mossad. The film seems to be an accurate portrayal of the real events. He really was smuggled out disguised as a very drunk commercial airline pilot; with Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley, and Melanie Laurent. Then I watched the next two episodes of 'AMEND- The Fight For America' (Netflix). This might be one of the best 'History Re-visited' series I've ever seen. It's refreshing to hear a truer look at the historical record rather than the more sanitized 'official' version. Even today a significant number of white Americans believe that Reconstruction 'proved' that blacks were not qualified to govern and clearly 'The White Man's Burden'. This episode: Desegregation of the schools was the foot in the door for racial equality. All Americans, regardless of Race....now Sex, Gender, or almost anything else, are do equal protection under the law. What's the big deal?  And the next episode focuses on 'Romantic Paternalism'. Up 8am: Cloudy with a wintry mix beginning late this afternoon and through the night- temps to the upper 30's.  Not much precipitation today, but temps rising all week and by Saturday it might hit 50. Watched 'STILL LIFE' (Kanopy). The film plots a man as he tries to locate his missing wife to see his daughter and a woman as she tries to find her husband and sue for divorce. The film is hypnotically paced and features beautiful vistas of a river, gorges, and an entire city that is being demolished for the Three Gorges Dam.  I guess the point is that Chinese bureaucracy cares nothing for the poor.  ***Picture quality at Kanopy is a problem. I messed with the speed settings, but they only perform like a 'fast forward' or 'reverse' and have nothing to do with picture quality. An incredibly nasty, yet terrific film about a scam to place rich old people under state guardianships and then take everything they own. That part was scary enough, but then the film changes course and becomes about one of the 'clients' who happens to be the mother of a particularly  vicious boss in the Russian mafia. And even he has trouble freeing his mother from this diabolical (and apparently legal) swindle; with Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Eiza Gonzalez, and Dianne Wiest. It still amazes me that one member of congress could have such an effect on America's foreign policy, but it really did happen.  Watched 'BLISS' (Amazon Prime). A wacky SF film that didn't even come close to a cinematic representation of a pretty good idea. What is reality and what is a simulation or was the whole film about a guy out of his head in rebab? Two New Orleans paramedics stumble upon a new synthetic drug that allows users to travel back in time, but where you land in the past depends on where you are when the drug kicks in. The details of the process were hazy and the premise was far fetched, but not too bad overall. Filmed in New Orleans; with Anthony Mackie and Jamie Doran. I had always thought that overdoses on 'bath salts' were caused by people thinking that this was a side effect of taking a bathroom product.  Sa 2/13/21- Habitat/ Lazy Boy 920am.415pm.940pm. Up 7am: Buddy was making a racket, but he was OK. Snowing till about 11am and we got about two inches of very powdery snow. Temps will not rise above single digits and tonight there is a 'wind chill advisory' with temperatures that will feel like 20 below zero. Temps are not to rise above 20 for the entire week! Immigrants push back against racist policies and an undercover cop questions whether he is doing the right thing. "Their wars have ended and it's time that they return to their home countries. They were only guests here anyway"....Although the premise of the film is fictional, these nationalistic view are a central trope of the American Republican party today. A Spanish Action/Thriller about a nighttime prison transfer in a wilderness area fifty miles northwest of Madrid. The prisoners are in a large truck and each is locked in a closet sized cell. The silliest way to transport any humans anywhere. The truck has been hijacked by a man who has engineered the heist to force one of the prisoners to reveal the location of his dead daughter. The convict and another guy raped and killed her and hid the body in an abandoned well. An exceptionally odd scene: The transfer vehicle is left on a frozen lake and allowed to fall through the ice with all on board. 1240pm: A walk outside and will pick up some saltines at Walgreens. Beautiful sets and costumes and Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are perfectly cast as Holmes and Watson; also with Noomi Rapace, Rachel McAdams, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry, Kelly Reilly, and Eddie Marsan. 1pm: ON THE TREADMILL...4 Miles and finished ROGAN/ GLASSER-' ACLU', A Sarah Silverman and 'How Neal Feel'. Read for an hour and then wrote the 'Wrap'. Watched 'HOMEFRONT' (Netflix). An ex-special forces guy and his ten year old daughter are in a witness protection program in rural Louisiana and lovin' it when they fall afoul of some locals. Their enemies include an evil and psychopathic meth lab operator and a crazed motorcycle gang.
