While visiting a furniture store an elderly woman sits on a couch and refuses to move. Her three adult children try to intervene and the film becomes a quirky & odd 'self discovery' for everyone. I had completely forgotten how moving this film was. A young woman interviews black maids in Mississippi during the sixties and their stories reveal the horror and hilarity of their lives under 'Jim Crow'. There was a handbook issued by the state of Mississippi about how blacks would be treated under their system of, 'Separate But Equal'; ex- Books for black children could never be used by white children; It was illegal for a black male to be a hairdresser of white girls and women.
